"Fainted? How could that happen? Are you sure you gave him the medicine I provided?" Yan Kongyue asked, her voice laced with concern as she stood beside Lin Lie, who kindly switched the phone to speaker mode.
Well, these two kids really went ahead and drugged Jiang Laotou. Lin Old Man was laughing so hard he was shaking.
Lin Lie's eyelids twitched; their audacity was astounding. But Lin Qian couldn't help but wonder why Jiang Laoshengyi hadn't noticed anything amiss.
"Right, did you just put it in the tea?" Lin Sheng said, his voice low and filled with guilt.
"What tea?"
"Tieguanyin!"
"That shouldn't be! Which hospital?"
"Our family hospital!"
"Wait for me!" Yan Kongyue said calmly, hanging up the phone and looking at Lin Lie with a pout. She squeezed her voice into a high pitch, "I don't have a driver!"
The Lin Family had several drivers, but among them, a few brothers were always willing to drive her themselves, and she enjoyed their company.
"I'll be your driver!" Lin Qian perked up immediately, and Huo Jingyu stood up as well.
"Let's go!"
Before Lin Old Man and Lin Lie could react, the three young people dashed out the door.
"Slow down, you guys!" Lin Old Man called after them, unable to hide his smile. That old rascal had finally met his match.
"Hmph, serves you right for trying to take my grandson!" Lin Old Man loved children dearly; he had watched several grow up around him. Only Lin Sheng had followed Jiang Laotou since childhood, sometimes not even seeing him for months.
As they left, they hit the evening rush hour traffic, and it took over an hour to reach the hospital.
"You guys finally made it; it's already dark!" Lin Sheng sighed in relief upon seeing Yan Kongyue.
"You have no idea how bad the traffic was outside; your calls nearly drained my phone!" Lin Qian complained, his phone almost out of battery from all the attempts to reach them.
"Hurry up! My master’s hospitalization is trending online; if he wakes up, he’s definitely going to scold me!" Lin Sheng pulled Yan Kongyue toward the ward.
"What did the doctor say?"
"Nothing; they didn't find anything!"
In the hospital room, Jiang Laotou lay motionless on the bed while several younger members of the Jiang Family kept vigil at his side.
Yan Kongyue walked over and took his pulse, her mind quickly assessing the situation. "You all go outside and don't let anyone else in!"
"Who is she?" Jiang Mo, the senior brother of Lin Sheng, whispered.
"My sister!"
"Oh!" Jiang Mo understood. He was aware that Lin Sheng had been poisoned, and with a skilled practitioner present, he felt less anxious. Thinking of Lin Sheng's presence, he led the others out.
"Sister, we won't disturb you; we'll just stay outside!"
"Go out and buy me some milk tea!"
Lin Qianzhi realized that Yan Kongyue was determined to send them away, so he could only pull Huo Jingyu along as they left. Lin Sheng was still reluctant, wanting to sneak a few lessons, but Yan Kongyue pushed him out and locked the door behind him.
Knock, knock! Yan Kongyue tapped on the bedside table next to the sickbed. "Old man, stop pretending; look at how scared your disciple is."
"Cough, cough, cough. No wonder you're able to cure Ah Sheng's poison." Jiang Laotou slowly opened his eyes and looked at the little girl standing by his hospital bed.
"You're just making excuses!"
"You're quite clever; it's not easy to deal with that family."
"It seems I wasn't wrong!"
"You two little brats dared to drug me!"
"So, tell me, do you feel better now than before?"
"Yes, that's true!" Jiang Laotou had to admit this; he felt the difference as soon as he took the medicine. Otherwise, he wouldn't have fallen for their trick.
"Hmph! That medicine isn't something just anyone can take." Yan Kongyue pulled over a chair and sat down, watching Jiang Laoshengyi with a relaxed demeanor.
