"Big Sister, I was just saying that without any other meaning." Lin Rushan felt a bit embarrassed, not even knowing why he had said that.
"How has Lin Qinan been these past few days? I heard from Lin Lang that the child was scared!"
"Indeed, thankfully Yan Kongyue provided the medicine. After drinking it last night, the child slept soundly until dawn, and this morning, her complexion is much better."
"That's good. As long as the child is taken care of for a while longer, there should be no problem."
"Aunt, Mom, what are you chatting about?" Lin Qinan and Lin Lang came down from upstairs.
"Just some casual talk." Lin Qinan's mother was still a bit upset and didn't want to pay attention to her wayward child.
"Aunt, has my sister come back?" Lin Lang glanced towards the dining room.
"She’s back and already eating!"
"I got called away by my brother as soon as I woke up and didn’t even have time to eat. The child must be starving!" Lin Lang headed straight into the dining room, with Lin Qinan following her.
"Sister, take your time eating. No need to rush!"
"Yeah, I’m not in a hurry!" Yan Kongyue stuffed her little mouth full; she loved that feeling of satisfaction.
"To be honest, my sister looks quite lovely while eating. Much better than those food bloggers," Lin Lang said, swallowing hard as she was influenced by the sight.
"Aunt, is there more? I want to eat too!" Lin Qinan sat down opposite Yan Kongyue.
"Yes, yes! Just in time to eat with Yan Kongyue," Lin Ruyu quickly instructed the maid to serve rice for Lin Qinan.
Soon enough, Lin Lang also picked up a bowl.
About half an hour later, the three of them finished eating and left the dining room.
"Come here, Yan Kongyue! Let me introduce you. This is my Third Brother and Sister-in-law San. They are here to thank you for saving Lin Qinan."
"Hehe, no need to be so polite!" Yan Kongyue was most uncomfortable in such situations and nervously glanced at Lin Lang.
Receiving her sister's signal for help, Lin Lang quickly took charge of the situation. Fortunately, Lin Qinan's family chatted for a while to express their gratitude, leaving behind a card before getting up to leave.
After sending off the guests, Yan Kongyue let out a long sigh of relief.
"Look at how hard it was on the child!" Lin Ruyu gently patted Yan Kongyue's head with concern.
"In the future, if anything like this happens again, we can just step in for her," Huo Jin also looked at Yan Kongyue with sympathy.
Yan Kongyue leaned back on the sofa like a wilted eggplant, looking dispirited.
"Little sister, it's not raining too hard now. How about I take you for a ride?"
"Sure!" Yan Kongyue sat up excitedly. She loved rainy days like this, and today was perfect for bringing He Bin home to visit.
"Let's go!"
The rain continued to patter softly as they followed He Bin's lead to his mother's place.
As they entered the single door, Jia Jia's home was adorned with outdated red couplets and the character for "fortune," while He Bin's door stood bare, the remnants of past decorations silently telling passersby that this place had once been filled with joy.
Knock, knock! Lin Lang rapped on the closed door.
"Who is it?" A voice from inside inquired, but the door swung open nonetheless.
"Hello, sir. Is this the He residence?" Lin Lang adjusted his black-framed glasses, trying to appear friendly.
"Yes, who are you looking for?" The man who opened the door was in his teens, with graying hair and a worried expression.
"Uncle, I'm a friend of He Bin's. I heard that Auntie is unwell, so my sister and I came to check on you!"
"Oh, you're a friend of Xiao Bin! Come in, come in."
"Lao He, cough cough cough! Who's here?"
"It's a friend of Xiao Bin," He Bin's father replied as he led Lin Lang and Yan Kongyue into the living room before heading back to the bedroom to help his wife out.
Auntie Yan Kongyue took the opportunity to check He Mama's pulse while helping her sit down.
"Please sit down! I'm fine; it's just that troublesome child who got me all worked up."
"Auntie, I have some medicine here that works wonders for lung health and helps with breathing." Yan Kongyue pulled out a small wooden box from her bag. As she opened it, a faint medicinal aroma wafted through the air.
He Mama initially intended to refuse, but upon catching the scent of the medicine, she felt her breathing ease and instinctively took the pill from Yan Kongyue's hand and popped it into her mouth.
