"Ah, I need to trouble you to go to the hospital. It's someone from our village, a young man who also attended your school. He died unexpectedly in the hospital, and his family isn't taking care of him. I heard this from your aunt, and since we're from the same village and you're nearby..."
As he spoke, the entire table fell silent.
"Do you need any help?" Yan Qing asked.
Zhao Xiang was also present. "Cold-hearted," he said.
Accompanied by Tan Ming, Yan Qing decided to visit the hospital.
In the morgue, He Zhengwei lay on a plain white bed, covered with a white cloth.
Yan Qing couldn't bear to look directly at him. With sincere eyes, he addressed He Zhengwei, "I'm so sorry, He Zhengwei. We were university roommates for four years, yet I never really knew who you were. I had no idea what was happening to you. As your roommate, I failed you and never offered my help. I'm truly sorry."
He bowed deeply.
During the gathering, Tan Ming revealed the whole truth. Of course, this was a secret shared among their group of ten.
Yan Qing couldn't shake off his guilt; he felt uneasy. He thought that if he had paid more attention to He Zhengwei, perhaps he would have noticed the deep affection hidden in his eyes for Zhao Xiang sooner. Maybe if they had talked about it earlier, He Zhengwei wouldn't have met such a tragic end.
In this outcome, everyone was fine except for He Zhengwei.
Tan Ming patted his shoulder in comfort. "Let's go."
The two emerged from the morgue and saw Zhao Xiang waiting for them.
Zhao Xiang's gaze fell on Yan Qing as he asked, "What are your plans for the future? Are you considering joining my team?"
Yan Qing glanced at Tan Ming, who pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket. "I've kept this for you for a long time," he said.
It was the last page of Zhao Xiang's notebook.
After everything had been restored, Tan Ming had found this paper in his pocket when he woke up.
"Graduation Gift," it read, specifically meant for Yan Qing.
Yan Qing calmly glanced over and said to Zhao Xiang, "Thank you, thank you for your gift. I'm sorry, Zhao Xiang."
"You are a remarkable person," Yan Qing said as he held Tan Ming's hand.
"It's alright," Zhao Xiang replied with a faint smile, though his eyes still held a hint of regret.
As Yan Qing was leaving, he suddenly remembered something and turned to him, saying, "That day, in the dormitory, it was He Zhengwei who played 'Emil.' He can play the violin."
Zhao Xiang's gaze remained calm as he replied, "I know."
They reached the entrance of the hospital and saw Ling Xingyuan and Liu Xuanzhu approaching. "What brings you here?"
Ling Xingyuan sighed, "I came to apologize to He Zhengwei. The other day when I went to find Dai Zi, I was in a hurry and accidentally bumped into him, even scolding him. I feel guilty about it."
"Alright, go ahead," Yan Qing said.
Ling Xingyuan and the others entered the hospital.
Wen He followed them out and called out, "Hey, wait!"
"What is it?" Yan Qing asked.
"I have something else to tell you. I have a blood relation with Wang Xiaoyan and Wang Xiaowei; their father is my uncle. My dad passed away when I was three, and after that, I was adopted by another family with the surname Wang from a neighboring village. So I don’t find this surprising at all."
"Also," Wen He continued, "Cold-hearted found out that Zhu Yihuang is also in this hospital. Do you want to go see him?"
Tan Ming and Yan Qing decided to visit him.
The frail Zhu Yihuang lay motionless on the hospital bed, tubes inserted all over his body.
Through the glass, Tan Ming softly said, "You didn't harm Wei Yu or Wang Xiaoyan; you are innocent."
After he spoke, the beeping of the heart monitor next to the bed pierced through the silence before gradually calming down.
Doctors and nurses rushed over and pushed open the door to enter.
After examining Zhu Yihuang's condition, they all sighed heavily. The head physician picked up the phone to call Zhu Yihuang's father, Zhu Dong. "Xiao Yi has gone."
Exiting the hospital, both of them felt a heavy weight on their hearts.
Yan Qing said, "I think I misunderstood."
"Hmm?"
Wang Xiaoyan asked, "Why haven't you come yet? She isn't waiting for Wang Xiaowei; she is waiting for Lin Hao."
Under the control, they remained fixated on Wang Xiaoyan's death. Yet, they never considered how heavy and oppressive this dormitory truly was. Wei Yu had betrayed Lin Hao's love. Wang Xiaoyan had let down her parents and younger brother. They were innocent yet not innocent at all. Only Zhu Yihuang's ten years as a vegetable were truly lamentable.
Once they left the hospital, the originally overcast sky cleared, and the sun shone down on them. The large screen of the shopping mall across the street was broadcasting breaking news. Following the recent Geomagnetic Storm, Capital University was embroiled in scandal, as academic star Professor Xin faced accusations from students of academic misconduct and fraud. Reports indicated that the school had already contacted the police and initiated an expert investigation.
"Jiajia, look at the green light!" a man shouted.
Yan Qing's thoughts were interrupted as she turned to look. A little girl ran across the street, with a car behind her suddenly slamming on its brakes. The girl, frightened, fell to the ground. Yan Qing rushed over to help her up. The little girl thanked her, calling her "big brother," just as her father approached with a stern expression.
"Thank you," Lin Hao said politely as he extended his hand to Yan Qing.
Yan Qing was taken aback when she clearly saw his face. Behind Lin Hao was a beautiful woman in her thirties, hurriedly leading a thirteen or fourteen-year-old boy along. "Old Jiajia?"
Yan Qing smiled slightly and shook his hand.
