Outside Thundercloud Valley, in a secluded forest, dozens of tents had been set up, surrounded by flickering torches. Groups of people patrolled the area, forbidding anyone from approaching, and any beasts that were discovered were swiftly killed.
At that moment, Li Ying returned with several dozen men, his face dark and brooding. The surrounding subordinates greeted him with obsequious smiles and friendly nods.
"Vice Captain," they called out.
Li Ying's expression remained grim; he completely ignored them and quickly made his way toward the central tent. One of the subordinates muttered softly to himself, "Could it be that our Vice Captain didn't find the key and let that girl escape?"
Upon hearing this, several others looked on in surprise. They hadn't expected even the Vice Captain to fail in the pursuit. It seemed that the girl truly had some skills; no wonder she had managed to captivate their Leader so thoroughly.
Inside the large tent, Xie Yuanlong, a burly man with a rugged appearance, looked up as Li Ying entered. His face was filled with urgency as he quickly asked, "Did you find the key?"
Li Ying's expression was one of frustration as he shook his head. Seeing this reaction, Xie Yuanlong's anger flared; a fierce look crossed his rugged features as he shouted, "What a bunch of useless fools! We had the key in our grasp, and it was snatched away!"
Li Ying stood to the side, head lowered, not daring to respond—like a child caught in wrongdoing. After all, their Leader may have appeared rough and tough, but he was incredibly ruthless and cunning; countless lives had been lost at his hands. Li Ying knew better than to argue when Xie Yuanlong was in such a mood.
Once Xie Yuanlong's anger subsided, Li Ying slowly spoke up. "Leader, Zhao Hu and Zhao Yanran were ambushed on their way back; all their valuables have been plundered. Therefore, I suspect that this person must have learned about the stronghold in Thundercloud Valley and the Cave. If they obtained the key, they would undoubtedly come here to investigate."
"This person isn't very powerful—only at the Peak of Body Refinement. We just need to wait here patiently to catch him and retrieve the key. Then we can enter Thundercloud Valley and search for the stronghold."
Hearing this, Xie Yuanlong's dark expression gradually eased as he decided to follow Li Ying's suggestion and lay in wait for their prey.
Regret filled his heart as he realized he had been outsmarted by a woman, leading to the loss of his opportunity. After a moment of contemplation, a rough voice slowly emerged.
"Gather all the brothers in the group and position them around. Capture any suspicious individuals on sight. We would rather wrongfully kill than let any one of them slip away, until we find that card."
Li Ying nodded upon hearing this and immediately instructed the Mighty Tiger Mercenary Group to begin patrolling the area and apprehending any suspicious persons.
Days passed.
Yun Fan sprinted through the forest, heading deeper into the Desolate Mountain Range, encountering increasingly powerful beasts along the way. Most were at the peak of the First Level; he hardly saw any beasts at the early to mid-stages of the First Level. Occasionally, he would catch sight of Second-Stage Beasts.
Yun Fan dared not provoke them. At the slightest sound, he would take off running, terrified of becoming one of their meals.
After several days of travel, he finally arrived at the outskirts of Thundercloud Valley. The valley before him was shrouded in darkness, thick with storm clouds. The sunlight was completely blocked, casting a dim light over everything.
Every now and then, a thunderous crack would echo as lightning struck down upon the mountaintop ahead.
