A pale face flew out from behind the speaker, and Lu Jin's mouth fell open in shock. "Fang... Xia?" 0

Fang Xia's head spun in the air, and suddenly a hand and a foot emerged from behind her head. Lu Jin stared in disbelief as he saw a second hand, a second foot, followed by a gray face devoid of expression. It was the face of a puppet! 0

Could it be that the one who just spoke to him was this puppet? 0

"That's right, it's me." The puppet's cracked mouth opened and closed as it spoke, and Lu Jin noticed black mist swirling within its mouth. 0

The puppet's tone was chilling: "You killed Fang Xia." 0

Lu Jin slumped down, waving his hands in desperate denial. "No, no! I didn't kill anyone! I didn't kill Fang Xia!" 0

His hands trembled as he stepped deeper into the oppressive darkness of the Black Forest. 0

A graceful figure stood deep within the woods, waiting for him, unaware that death awaited her. 0

The cold gleam of a dagger distorted Lu Jin's face, the muscles at the corners of his mouth twitching slightly—was it tension or excitement? 0

The figure drew closer to Lu Jin, and he could already smell her fragrance—elegant and intoxicating. Such a beautiful girl at such a tender age; if he weren't cornered with no way out, would he still have the heart to strike? 0

Lu Jin shook his head violently. No, there could be no more hesitation. He had to act! 0

With a sudden surge of resolve, Lu Jin yanked the girl's body toward him and plunged the dagger forcefully into her heart. Blood gushed forth, splattering into Lu Jin's eyes, red mixing with black in a chaotic blur. 0

Lu Jin was laughing, gasping for breath as he did so. He looked at her once more, and it felt like it would be the last time. 0

She was laughing too, the girl, but she—wasn’t she Fang Xia?! 0

A strange smile spread across her gray face, and a thick black mist began to swirl around her. To his horror, he noticed a doll's face on the girl’s neck! 0

Panic-stricken, Lu Jin stumbled back against the cold trunk of a tree. Suddenly, a hand wrapped around him. 0

He glanced over and saw another doll's face, but this time it wasn’t on the girl’s neck; it was on the tree itself. The doll's face continued to smile, its eyes blinking slowly as black mist seeped from them, carrying with it an icy chill of death. 0

Looking back, Lu Jin saw that the entire Black Forest was filled with countless doll faces appearing on the trunks of trees, all staring at him with eerie smiles. 0

“No, no!” Lu Jin cried out in fear, burying his head in his arms. He remained still for what felt like an eternity. Slowly, he peeked out from his embrace; silence enveloped him—oppressive and suffocating silence. Then everything seemed to return to calm. 0

Fang Xia’s body lay quietly beneath the tree, her face frozen in shock and resentment. Lu Jin looked around; there were no dolls, no doll faces—had he been too tense and imagined it all? 0

Checking his watch, he realized he had no time to waste; he needed to dispose of Fang Xia’s body quickly. 0

As Lu Jin cast Fang Xia’s lifeless form into the icy lake, he thought he saw a smile—a smile that did not belong to any human being. 0

Who was it? Who was laughing?! 0

Lu Jin slowly opened his eyes. 0

A sinister smile appeared before him, behind which was the face of a puppet. 0

"Will you not admit that you killed Fang Xia?" The Puppet Man, small in stature—only half the size of a human head—leaned over Fang Xia's floating head, gazing coldly at Lu Jin. 0

"Are you human, or... a ghost?" Fear gripped Lu Jin's heart, causing his lips to tremble uncontrollably. 0

"You see, I am neither human nor ghost. I am a Puppet Man, a kind-hearted Puppet Man. I have come only to help you," the Puppet Man replied. 0

"Help me? Help me with what?" Lu Jin asked, bewildered. 0

"Just now, you recalled the process of killing Fang Xia. You were decisive, and the body was disposed of very cleanly. But you forgot one crucial thing, something very important," the Puppet Man reminded Lu Jin as it perched on the head. 0

Lu Jin carefully sifted through his memories and suddenly stood up, anxious. "The dagger? Are you talking about that dagger?" 0

The puppet laughed again, and with each laugh, Lu Jin felt his heart momentarily pause. "Have you found the dagger?" 0

"No," Lu Jin shook his head. He had searched for it afterward but scoured the woods around without success. Had someone else found the dagger? 0
