"Your Highness, someone from the palace has come to summon you for the morning court."
Morning court?
Those two words felt utterly foreign to him. Ever since he was granted his title, he hadn't attended a single court session. Why would someone from the heavens send a messenger today? What kind of trick is Su Qianxue trying to play?
Che Chengyun looked worried. "Your Highness, what has happened in the palace? Why hasn't our informant shared any news with us?"
Langya Prince shrugged nonchalantly. "Perhaps Su Qianxue is just in a mood and wants to test us. No need to panic; let's go see for ourselves!" He couldn't believe that Su Qianxue could stir up any real trouble.
In the court, it seemed everyone was aware that Su Qianxue was in a bad mood. The atmosphere was tense, and everyone fell silent.
Finally, when Langya Prince arrived late, the others visibly relaxed. At last, he was here. Let’s hope nothing disastrous happens!
Langya Prince glanced at the crowd before turning to Su Qianxue with an expressionless face. "I wonder why Your Majesty has summoned me?"
He was significantly older than Su Qianxue and could be considered his uncle, so he felt no need to observe the formalities expected between a ruler and a subject. Since Su Qianxue ascended the throne, Langya Prince had always behaved this way.
But today was different; Su Qianxue broke from his usual demeanor. "Langya Prince, you do realize your position as a subject. Why did you not kneel before me?"
Could it be that Langya Prince does not acknowledge me as emperor?
Langya Prince furrowed his brow and straightened his back. "Of course not, Your Majesty. My health is poor; the imperial physician has advised against kneeling. I hope Your Majesty can understand."
Su Qianxue showed no signs of leniency. "Oh? What ailment do you have that I have not heard of? Bring in several imperial physicians; I want to hear what illness Langya Prince has that has persisted all these years."
Realizing that Su Qianxue was serious, Langya Prince sensed trouble brewing. However, there was no way he would kneel before a young girl who had yet to fully mature.
"Your Majesty, let’s be frank; you did not summon me here just to discuss my health, did you?"
Su Qianxue nodded. "Indeed."
Since my royal uncle does not wish to discuss your ailments, let’s talk about your subordinates instead.
The way she referred to his supposed illness made it sound as if Langya Prince truly had some grave condition.
More than half of the officials present were under his command, but that didn’t mean he could openly confront Su Qianxue.
Su Qianxue tossed a letter onto the table in front of Langya Prince. "I wonder if you are aware that one of your subordinates is a Yu Gaofei?"
This Yu Gaofei person wasn’t significant at all; in fact, he hadn’t even had the chance to attend court sessions. It was no wonder Langya Prince had dismissed him so easily.
Langya Prince stroked his chin, seemingly deep in thought. He picked up the letter from the ground; the name sounded familiar, but he couldn't recall what issues this person might have.
Every word he spoke made Lin Qingyue break out in a cold sweat. She certainly knew Yu Gaofei, and Zheng Chang was the one communicating with him to convey Langya Prince's intentions.
Su Qianxue said, "You'll understand once you read it."
Langya Prince could read quickly and didn't bother to scrutinize the contents. After all, he had already prepared himself to sacrifice Yu Gaofei.
However, just as he was about to close the letter, his peripheral vision caught another name: Feng Yi. After seeing those two characters, he reread the letter. Only then did he realize that it clearly detailed various crimes and evidence.
It stated that Feng Yi and Yu Gaofei had colluded with Zheng Chang to sell information about the Da Zhou Army to the empire. Each accusation was laid out clearly, leaving him no room for rebuttal.
Langya Prince couldn't help but grit his teeth. How did Su Qianxue uncover all this? It shouldn't be possible! Could it be that this situation involved not only Xingbu but also people from the Dali Temple? Surely Su Qianxue hadn't secretly nurtured an intelligence expert?
He clenched his fists tightly. Seeing this, Su Qianxue smiled and asked, "What's wrong, Your Highness? Are you feeling unwell again?"
"I want to know what you think about these matters. According to my investigation, Feng Yi has a very close relationship with you," he continued.
At the mention of Feng Yi's name, the man suddenly looked dazed. He turned to glance at Langya Prince and then at Su Qianxue. It seemed that Su Qianxue sensed his gaze and slammed her hand on the table, angrily demanding, "Feng Yi! Do you know your crimes?!"
Feng Yi wanted to protest that he was unaware of anything. However, Langya Prince took a deep breath and declared, "I have no knowledge of this matter!"
Even if he wanted to protect Feng Yi now, it was already too late. The evidence was overwhelmingly clear; the timeline was laid out plainly. If he were to speak up for Feng Yi, Su Qianxue would continue her investigation relentlessly. That would put him in a disadvantageous position.
Su Qianxue coldly snorted inwardly, realizing that this royal uncle could be flexible when needed. She had thought he might defend Feng Yi further, but it seemed he understood that Feng Yi was beyond saving now.
Feng Yi knelt on the ground in confusion. No one had told him what was happening!
As the saying goes, if you're going to put on a show, you must do it thoroughly.
The Langya Prince threw the letter onto Feng Yi's face, exclaiming, "How dare you betray the Great Zhou!" The contents of that letter were all evidence. How could the prince consider you a friend, and this is how you repay him?!
Feng Yi stared blankly as he picked up the letter, glancing at it and suddenly panicking. He quickly clung to the Langya Prince's leg, pleading, "My lord, save me!"
These were all things you made me do...
Before he could finish his sentence, the Langya Prince slapped him hard. "You wretched fool! You’re still so stubborn and even want me to save you! Selling out your country? Not even a deity could save you from this!"
Without waiting for anyone to react, the Langya Prince drew his sword from his waist and thrust it straight toward Feng Yi's heart. Blood splattered onto the face of a minister standing closest to them.
Su Qianxue was furious beyond measure. "Langya Prince, who gave you the right to draw your sword in the court?!"
The Langya Prince withdrew his sword and wiped the blood on his sleeve. "This is for the sake of Great Zhou. Traitors like him should be killed; should we leave him alive for another chance to betray us?"
After saying this, he turned to Su Qianxue as if no one else was present. "May I ask if Your Majesty has any other opinions?"
Su Qianxue's anger was rising steadily.
The Langya Prince was so imposing!
His fury matched Su Qianxue's: "This is all thanks to Your Majesty! If it weren't for Your Majesty's thorough investigation, we might never have caught such a traitor!"
It sounded like praise but was actually a provocation.
"If Your Majesty has no further matters, I shall take my leave due to my poor health."
As everyone watched the Langya Prince walk away, they couldn't help but sigh in amazement.
