The classroom floor began to collapse, revealing a vast underground space below. Xu Rong saw countless fluorescent green "cocoons" hanging in midair, each one encasing a distorted human figure. Black mist poured out from the cracks, coalescing into the shape of Tentacles.
"Welcome to the 'Hatching Ground'," a little girl said as she spread her membranous wings and hovered in the air. "These are all failures, but their sacrifice is worth it." Her voice suddenly turned reverent. "To welcome 'Him' into our world."
Xu Rong felt a sharp pain in his head, as if countless tiny Tentacles were plucking at his nerves. A low whisper echoed in his ears, resembling some ancient language.
"Do you feel it?" The little girl flapped her wings excitedly. "'He' is calling you!"
At that moment, Xu Rong's phone suddenly rang. It was Lao Chen's voice, breaking through with intermittent clarity. "Xu Rong... we found... Professor Lin's lab... he's cloning... your genes..."
Before he could finish, a black Tentacle suddenly wrapped around Xu Rong's ankle. He felt a cold force spreading through his veins, accompanied by a deafening roar in his ears.
"Embrace 'Him'," the little girl's voice became ethereal. "Become the perfect vessel and gain Eternal Life..."
Xu Rong bit down on his tongue, using the pain to stay awake. He raised his gun and aimed at the fire sprinkler system above him. "You monsters... go to hell!"
The gunshot rang out, and cold water poured down in torrents. The black Tentacles let out a pained shriek and quickly retreated underground. The little girl's membranous wings became drenched, and she fell heavily to the ground.
"You... how dare you..." she struggled to get up, but Xu Rong had already rushed to her side and plunged a syringe filled with sedative into her neck.
"Good night, little one," Xu Rong gasped, "sweet dreams."
He dragged the unconscious girl out of the classroom, the corridor echoing with piercing screams. Black mist seeped from every corner, coalescing into the shape of tentacles.
Suddenly, his walkie-talkie crackled to life with Lao Chen's urgent voice: "Xu Rong, do you hear me? We're in the underground parking lot on the east side of the school! Bring that child over; we've found a way to deal with 'Him'!"
Xu Rong glanced down at the unconscious girl in his arms. Her body was abnormally cold, and the veins beneath her skin glowed with a fluorescent green light. "Hold on," he murmured, "we'll end this soon."
Then, footsteps echoed from the shadows ahead in the corridor. Xu Rong raised his gun, only to see a familiar figure—it was the principal of Third Elementary School, but he had become unrecognizable. His neck was elongated and twisted, eyes bulging, and his mouth split down to his ears.
" Forensic Doctor Xu," the principal's voice rasped like sandpaper, "hand over that child to me. She is the first vessel chosen by 'Him'..."
"Get lost!" Xu Rong pulled the trigger, and the bullet pierced through the principal's shoulder, splattering fluorescent green liquid. The principal let out a pained scream as his body began to twist and contort, scales emerging beneath his skin.
Seizing the opportunity, Xu Rong dashed into the fire escape, but the stairwell was already covered in black slime. He heard footsteps rising from below, like countless arthropods crawling.
"Lao Chen, I'm trapped in the fire escape on the west side of the main building!" he shouted into the walkie-talkie. "These monsters are surrounding me!"
