That night, Zhao Gang ordered someone to find Ling Xue again. Under the eaves of his house, Ling Xue had no choice but to lower her head and drag her small steps to Zhao Gang's bedroom. Although she felt helpless about being in such a place, how many modern people had not experienced something similar? This forced situation was merely a new experience for her.
She adjusted her emotions and pushed open the door, smiling as she faced Zhao Gang. Upon seeing Ling Xue approach, Zhao Gang revealed a satisfied smile, as if everything tonight was already under his control. Ignoring the two maids behind him, he directly embraced Ling Xue and tossed her onto the bed. Ling Xue did not struggle; in her heart, she knew that resistance would only bring unnecessary pain.
She closed her eyes and let her thoughts drift far away, imagining herself in a world without constraints. Zhao Gang's movements were rough and eager; he did not notice that Ling Xue's inner world had already flown beyond the confines of this room.
After a few days, Ling Xue felt some discomfort in her body. Not only had her appetite decreased, but food also seemed tasteless to her. Her tastes became stronger, yet she found herself increasingly interested in intimate matters. Zhao Gang noticed these changes in Ling Xue; he began to pay attention to her eating habits and emotional fluctuations, sensing that something was amiss. He called for a doctor to diagnose her.
The maids Cui Er and Xiu Er observed Ling Xue's recent odd behavior and quietly discussed it among themselves.
Cui Er frowned and said, "Look at how the mistress has been indifferent to food these past few days; could it be that she is ill?"
Xiu Er's eyes lit up as she lowered her voice, "From what I see, it seems like she might be pregnant."
Cui Er gasped and covered her mouth in surprise, "Really? If she is indeed pregnant, that would be wonderful news!"
Just then, Zhao Gang summoned the physician. The doctor carefully examined Ling Xue's pulse, and the room was so quiet that one could hear everyone's heartbeat. After a moment, the doctor stood up with a joyful expression and clasped his hands toward Zhao Gang, saying, "Congratulations, sir! The mistress is indeed pregnant."
Ling Xue remained expressionless, feeling a mix of emotions inside.
Zhao Gang was momentarily stunned before joy spread across his face. "Is it true? That's fantastic! Congratulations to you too; this is great news! We must inform our relatives immediately."
The doctor continued speaking. Zhao Gang nodded eagerly, "Rest assured; I will arrange it right away."
He then turned to the steward beside him and ordered, "Prepare the sedan chair; I will personally visit Doctor Zhang in the south of the city. He is most knowledgeable about prenatal care."
After receiving his orders, the steward quickly went to make arrangements. By Ling Xue's bedside, Zhao Gang's expression was filled with concern and anticipation. "You rest well; I will find the best doctor to take care of you."
Upon hearing this, a warm feeling surged within Ling Xue. Despite her previous resistance, she was now touched by this sudden happiness.
She gently nodded to indicate that she would take good care of herself and the child. Zhao Gang tenderly stroked her hand before standing up and striding out of the room, his mind already calculating plans for the coming months.
As Zhao Gang left, Ling Xue lay on the bed with a tear slipping from the corner of her eye. She understood that this was not only a change in her body but also a turning point in her fate. She began to contemplate what kind of future this child would bring her. Despite still harboring fears in her heart, she realized that the responsibilities of motherhood had quietly descended upon her.
