In the inn, the scent of tea wafted through the air. An Lushan and Li Bai sat around a square table, their expressions serious. The tea in their cups had long gone cold, yet no one bothered to pour more.
"Brother Taibai, today in the palace, I sensed some of the senior officials showing coldness towards us, as if they were dissatisfied," An Lushan put down his tea cup and spoke in a deep voice.
Li Bai let out a soft sigh and said, "Brother An, the palace is a place where power struggles intertwine. As newcomers, it's natural that we won't gain everyone's approval. But as long as we act justly and with a clear conscience, we need not fear any criticism."
"Having said that, the influence behind those powerful statesmen is not to be underestimated," An Lushan frowned, "I am worried that they will secretly obstruct us from serving the court."
" brother An is right," Li Bai nodded, "but we should not retreat because of this. On the contrary, we should act more cautiously, find opportunities, expose their conspiracies, and rid the court of harm."
Just as the two were discussing, a sudden commotion came from outside the inn. They exchanged a glance and then walked out of the room together to find out what was happening. In the inn's lobby, several officials in splendid attire were in a heated argument with some martial artists.
"You rough and reckless people from the martial world, daring to cause trouble in the capital city, you have real guts!" an official angrily scolded the martial artists.
"Hmph, you court lackeys, who usually oppress the common people and exploit the villages, dare to spout such words here today!" a martial artist retorted defiantly.
An Lushan and Li Bai, upon witnessing this, were intrigued and approached to inquire about the situation. After some investigation, they learned that these martial artists had come to the capital to plead for the people. They claimed that there were individuals within the court colluding with foreign enemies, betraying the interests of the country. The officials were said to be the lackeys of those powerful statesmen, attempting to prevent them from exposing the truth.
" brother An, it seems that we have encountered quite a challenge returning to the capital this time," Li Bai said quietly to An Lushan.
An Lushan nodded and said in a deep voice, "Although these martial artists speak fiercely, what they say may not be without basis. We must proceed with caution to avoid falling into the traps of those powerful statesmen."
After discussing, the two decided to secretly investigate the matter and seek the truth. They first gathered some clues from the martial artists and then began to inquire around. After several days of effort, they finally discovered some leads.
Originally, those powerful statesmen did indeed collude with foreign enemies, trading national interests for the support and assistance of the foreign enemies. These officials are their accomplices and henchmen, covering up their crimes and eliminating Dissident in the capital.
"Brother Taibai, these powerful statesmen are truly audacious, daring to sell out the country's interests!" An Lushan said angrily.
Li Bai also had an angry look on his face: "For their personal gain, these people actually disregard the safety of the country, which is truly despicable! We must quickly report this matter to the emperor and let him know about the crimes of these powerful statesmen!"
However, when they were preparing to report this matter to the emperor, they found that the palace was heavily guarded and they could not enter at all. They had to seek other ways in the hope of exposing the matter.
After some twists and turns, they finally found an upright official willing to help them. This official presented their secret report to the emperor. Upon learning of the matter, the emperor was extremely angry and immediately ordered a thorough investigation.
After a period of investigation and evidence collection, the crimes of the powerful statesmen were finally exposed. In great anger, the emperor dismissed and investigated all those powerful statesmen and exiled them to the borderlands as a punishment. The foreign enemies who colluded with them also received the appropriate punishment.
After this incident, the positions of An Lushan and Li Bai in the court became even more secure. They won the trust of the emperor and the support of the people with their wisdom and bravery, as well as their selflessness and fairness. They continued to serve the court and seek the well-being of the people, leaving behind an immortal reputation in the capital city.
