Kouya Toyo's heart raced like a drum as he tightly gripped the charred Children's Vaccination Book. The alarm blared sharply, echoing throughout the training ground.
He took a deep breath, stuffing the vaccination book into the inner pocket of his clothing, and hurried out of the changing room.
The training ground was in chaos. Shen Zhao Yi stood before the central control panel, her brow furrowed in concern.
Her left hand unconsciously rubbed the rings made from the eyes of the deceased, a flicker of unease crossing her gaze.
"What’s going on?" Kouya Toyo asked nonchalantly.
Shen Zhao Yi shot him a cold glance. "There’s an intruder in the restricted area. It seems someone is unaware of their own mortality."
Zhou Shenyong rushed over. "Director, we’ve locked onto the intruder's location. It’s a Cyborg, moving towards the Experimental Zone."
"A Cyborg?" Shen Zhao Yi narrowed her eyes. "Interesting. Looks like they want to steal the Experimental Data." She turned to Kouya Toyo, a smirk curling at her lips. "Perfect. Let’s test your combat skills."
Kouya Toyo felt a chill run down his spine. He sensed there was more to Shen Zhao Yi's words.
"Your task is simple," Shen Zhao Yi said, tapping Kouya Toyo's chest with her cane. "Capture the intruder—alive."
"And if I can’t?" Kouya Toyo met her gaze directly.
"Then," Shen Zhao Yi's voice turned icy, "you will become the next test subject."
Kouya Toyo clenched his jaw. He knew this was a gamble he couldn’t afford to lose.
"Go on, my good dog," Shen Zhao Yi chuckled lightly. "Show me how sharp your fangs are."
As Kouya Toyo turned to leave, he began to strategize how to use this opportunity. Perhaps he could glean some clues about his sister from the intruder.
Zhou Shenyong watched Kouya Toyo depart and whispered, "Director, are you sure you want to send him?"
"What? Do you have objections to my decision?" Shen Zhao Yi raised an eyebrow.
"No, it's just..." Zhou Shenyong hesitated.
"Don't worry," Shen Zhao Yi said, gently stroking his cane. "I have my own plans."
Kouya Toyo moved through the labyrinthine corridors, the blaring alarm ringing in his ears. His pupils took on a gear-like shape as his entire body began to metallicize.
A faint scent of blood lingered in the air, the unmistakable aura of an intruder.
Suddenly, a shadow darted past. Kouya Toyo reacted instantly, delivering a sweeping kick toward the figure.
The intruder was faster, easily dodging the attack.
"Interesting," the intruder's voice was hoarse and deep. "It seems the subjects from Neon Kennel are getting stronger."
Kouya Toyo narrowed his eyes. "Who are you? Why have you broken in here?"
"Me?" The intruder chuckled lightly. "Just someone seeking the truth."
The two engaged in a fierce battle within the narrow corridor. The intruder's movements were strange and agile, as if he could predict every one of Kouya Toyo's attacks. A sense of unease crept over Kouya Toyo; this person's strength far exceeded his expectations.
"What are you looking for?" Kouya Toyo asked while evading.
"Experimental Data," the intruder replied, a hint of pain in his voice. "Data on Subject 1999."
Kouya Toyo's heart skipped a beat. Why did that number sound so familiar?
At that moment, the intruder suddenly halted. "Wait, you... you are Kouya Toyo?"
Kouya Toyo froze. "How do you know my name?"
The intruder removed his mask, revealing a scarred face. His eyes were filled with complex emotions. "Because... I'm here to save you."
Kouya Toyo's mind went blank. He stared at the intruder's face, trying to find familiar contours among the scars. Suddenly, a terrifying thought flashed through his mind.
"Little... Little Yu?" Kouya Toyo's voice trembled.
A flicker of pain crossed the intruder's eyes. "Brother... I finally found you."
Time seemed to freeze in that moment. The joy of their reunion had yet to blossom when the alarm blared once more.
"Warning! Abnormal life form detected! Initiating self-destruct sequence!"
Kouya Toyo instantly reacted. "Run!"
He grabbed his sister's hand and sprinted toward the exit. However, all the doors were sealed shut. The entire Experimental Zone began to shake violently, as if it would collapse at any moment.
"Damn it!" Kouya Toyo cursed. He looked around and suddenly spotted a ventilation duct. "Little Yu, follow me!"
The two of them crawled into the duct, explosions echoing behind them.
Kouya Toyo pushed forward with all his might, a single thought consuming him: they had to survive.
They emerged into a spacious area.
Shen Zhao Yi stood there, a cold smile playing on her lips. "What a touching reunion," she said softly, "but unfortunately, none of you will be leaving."
