Lu raised his head from the book upon hearing Lu Qi's words, looking at his wife with a hint of amusement. His silly wife, he thought; how could she be so easily won over? There were hardly any others like her.
"Sang Sang, how are you getting home? Let me give you a ride; it's too dangerous for you to ride the electric bike," Yu Guoguo said, glancing out the window where a thick layer of snow had already settled on the ground, and it showed no signs of stopping.
"It's fine, the ground isn't frozen yet. I can ride my electric bike," Yu Guoguo's home was in the opposite direction from where Sang Yu lived, and she didn't want to trouble her.
"The snow is coming down pretty heavily. Why don't I just give you a ride? It's just a little detour anyway. It doesn't matter if you get home early or late," Sang Yu suggested.
"With your driving skills, maybe it's better if I just take a taxi," Sang Yu joked, mainly not wanting to inconvenience Yu Guoguo.
"Hey! You ungrateful person! Are you complaining about me now? Just take a taxi then," Yu Guoguo replied, understanding Sang Yu's intention not to trouble her and not insisting further. There were still plenty of taxis passing by in front of their school.
As they chatted, Sang Yu's phone rang. She picked it up to see it was Lu Jing calling. A smile unconsciously crept onto her lips. Although they hadn't officially defined their relationship yet, things had been going quite well between them lately. Sang Yu planned to agree when Lu Jing finally confessed.
"Hello?" Sang Yu's voice took on a slightly flirtatious tone, causing goosebumps to rise on Yu Guoguo's arms. The sweet scent of young love was in the air!
"What time do you finish work today?" Lu Jing's deep voice came through the phone, sending shivers down her spine.
"Four o'clock," Sang Yu replied softly.
"Since it's snowing heavily today, the school announced an early dismissal. I've already informed the parents to pick up their kids early because I'm worried about them slipping on the ice later."
"I'll come pick you up. Call me when you're close, and then you can come down."
"You’re coming to pick me up?" Sang Yu was surprised that Lu Jing would offer to come for her.
"The roads are so difficult; you shouldn't come," she said. It was quite a distance from Lu Jing's office to the school; it usually took over half an hour by car, and in this weather, it would take at least an hour.
"It's precisely because the roads are difficult that I should come get you. It's not safe for you to ride your bike. Just wait for me."
Although she was happy that Lu Jing wanted to pick her up, Sang Yu didn’t want him to risk driving in such slippery conditions. She appreciated his concern but felt it unnecessary for him to make that trip.
"Lu Jing!" Hearing him about to hang up, Sang Yu hurriedly called out, drawing the attention of other teachers in the office. She smiled shyly and lowered her voice, "You don’t need to come; the roads are bad. I’ll just take a taxi."
"Bao'er, give me a chance to show off! I haven't won your heart yet; I can't let any opportunity slip away!" Lu Jing’s words made Sang Yu blush slightly, but she still insisted, "Let's save it for next time; I appreciate your feelings."
"Just listen to me and wait for me at school," Lu Jing said before hanging up.
Sang Yu looked at the hung-up phone with a helpless smile. She knew she couldn't stop Lu Jing and decided to send him a WeChat message: "Take your time on the road; be careful."
Lu Jing replied almost immediately with a kiss emoji that made Sang Yu feel shy all over again.
Yu Guoguo noticed Sang Yu’s flushed face and rushed over to tease her quietly: "Oh ho! Looks like someone has someone picking them up! Your face is all red; how sweet! I'm so envious!"
Sang Yu glanced at the other teachers in the office and gritted her teeth, shouting, "Yu Guoguo!"
Yu Guoguo looked at Sang Yu, a bit anxious, and made a funny face at her before running back to her seat. Sang Yu shot her a glare.
The other teachers watched the two playfully teasing each other and simply smiled, thinking how nice it was to see such camaraderie.
