"Considering Sang Yu's presence, I won't hold it against you, hum!" Turning to Sang Yu, he smiled and said, "Yu, come by the shop for a meal whenever you have time; I'll treat you."
After saying that, An Yu left without even glancing at Lu Jingzhi.
Sang Yu chuckled after An Yu walked away. "Your friend is quite interesting!"
Lu Jingzhi laughed too. "He's always been like this since we were kids; we all love to tease him."
Not long after An Yu left, the hot pot was served. Eating out, hot pot is probably the fastest dish to arrive.
"Here, try this," Lu Jingzhi said as he picked up some fatty beef rolls with his chopsticks and placed them on Sang Yu's plate. "The taste of hot pot mainly depends on the sauce."
Sang Yu picked up a meat roll and dipped it into the sauce bowl, letting the beef soak in it. "Mmm," she exclaimed in surprise, "this is really delicious."
Seeing Sang Yu's expression, Lu Jingzhi knew she was satisfied. "Isn't it pretty good?"
"Mm-hmm!" Sang Yu nodded eagerly.
With food still in her mouth, her words came out a bit unclear.
Lu Jingzhi couldn't help but smile; she seemed like quite the foodie. "If it's good, eat more." He continued to take care of Sang Yu throughout the meal.
Sang Yu noticed Lu Jingzhi was always serving her food and felt a bit embarrassed. "You should eat too; you don’t have to keep serving me." Saying that, she also picked up some for Lu Jingzhi.
"Alright," Lu Jingzhi said contentedly as he ate what Sang Yu had given him.
The back-and-forth between them created a warm atmosphere.
Sang Yu thought about bringing Lin Yue next time; Lin Yue would definitely enjoy it.
"Are you full?"
"Yeah, I'm full," Sang Yu replied, patting her slightly protruding belly and secretly regretting that she had eaten so much in front of Lu Jingzhi!
"Sang Xiaoyu, you really have come a long way!"
Seeing Sang Yu's distressed expression made Lu Jingzhi want to laugh, but he held it back; if he laughed out loud, she would probably get upset.
Lu Jingzhi glanced at his watch; it was just past eight o'clock—still early. He tapped his right index finger on the table while thinking about the large shopping mall nearby that had a cinema inside.
"Sang Yu, how about going to catch a movie?"
"Ah, maybe not..."
"Do you have something else going on?" Lu Jingzhi raised an eyebrow.
"Is something wrong?" She thought to herself. She wasn't at home and hadn't made plans with Lin Yue, so she intended to just stay in.
"Let's go then, to the movies." Holding both her coat and Sang Yu's, Lu Jingzhi stood up and walked towards the door first.
Sang Yu was taken aback. Wasn't he supposed to ask for her opinion? It seemed she hadn't agreed to this at all.
Dazed, Sang Yu was led by Lu Jingzhi to the cinema. Was there a movie she wanted to see?
Lu Jingzhi glanced over a few films currently showing, contemplating what would be good to watch. He paused when he saw a horror movie, stealing a glance at Sang Yu as he considered the likelihood of her choosing it. He had heard that taking a girlfriend to a horror film often resulted in her snuggling into her boyfriend's arms.
"I'm sorry, but I think I might disappoint you," Sang Yu said.
"How about we watch a horror movie?" Lu Jingzhi suggested tentatively.
"Really?" Sang Yu asked excitedly. She had seen that there was a horror film available but had hesitated to bring it up earlier, worried that Lu Jingzhi might not like it. Now that he had mentioned it first, she felt free to express her interest.
Seeing Sang Yu suddenly light up with excitement gave Lu Jingzhi an uneasy feeling.
"Of course we can," he replied.
Sang Yu loved watching horror and detective films, but Lin Yue was too scared to join her. She didn't want to go alone to the cinema, so she had always watched them on her phone. This would be her first time seeing a horror movie in a theater, and she was sure it would be much more thrilling than watching at home.
Since they had just finished eating, Sang Yu insisted that Lu Jingzhi not buy popcorn and only get her a bottle of drink instead.
Watching other couples walk in with buckets of popcorn made Lu Jingzhi feel slightly disappointed. He silently resolved that next time they should watch the movie first and then go for dinner.
