"Nothing happened? Did the two demons not destroy Guobei County?"
Nie Rong's expression grew serious. He had heard from Nie Xiaoqian that the two demons had fought fiercely, yet Guobei County remained unscathed. This was clearly abnormal.
"To the county office," Nie Rong said in a low voice.
The carriage continued on its way without stopping, heading straight for the county office. Qin Feng had no objections, and the Ox Cart followed leisurely behind.
The County Magistrate of Guobei County seemed to have anticipated Nie Rong's arrival. They did not travel far before encountering the County Magistrate, who was accompanied by Yard Guards, making a grand display as they met the carriage.
"Your Excellency, I pay my respects," the County Magistrate said, a stout man with a round face, bowing respectfully to Nie Rong.
This official had risen in rank and was not dismissed; he could not afford to provoke Nie Rong's displeasure.
Nie Rong lifted the curtain of the carriage and glanced at the County Magistrate. "Alright, rise. Let’s head to the county office."
"Yes, my lord." The County Magistrate did not detect any dissatisfaction in Nie Rong's tone and felt relieved as he turned to lead the way.
Qin Feng observed the Destiny Energy above the County Magistrate's head—it was a pale yellow mixed with dark energy. This man’s career would likely go no further, and his lifespan was not long either.
At the county office, Nie Rong took the seat of honor while the County Magistrate sat below him, with Qin Feng and others seated to one side.
Nie Rong immediately asked, "Weren't there two demons? Is Guobei County alright?"
The County Magistrate was taken aback by the question but soon exclaimed with joy, "My lord, you don’t know! The Black Mountain Old Demon has appeared! The other demon’s origins are unknown, but they didn’t attack Guobei County. Instead, they went to a desolate mountain outside the city and completely obliterated it! It was simply terrifying!"
As he spoke, his face turned pale and his body trembled. If they had truly attacked Guobei County, it would have been obliterated long ago.
Qin Feng remained expressionless while Nie Rong was taken aback. "They didn’t attack the city?"
The County Magistrate nodded vigorously.
Nie Rong’s expression shifted. Generally, demons would not harm ordinary citizens in cities; thus, there was only one possibility—they intended to spare Guobei County.
Thinking this, he couldn’t help but look at the County Magistrate with pity. Although he understood what was happening, he chose not to reveal it because he felt powerless himself.
It was better left unsaid to avoid causing unnecessary fear and anxiety for this official.
Then Nie Rong shifted the conversation to governance issues, and the County Magistrate answered cautiously.
Qin Feng stopped listening to their discussion and continued observing the County Magistrate with an odd expression.
Suddenly, Nie Feng spoke up, "County Magistrate, do you have a Demon Pet?"
"Hmm?" Both Nie Rong and the County Magistrate paused their conversation and turned to look at Qin Feng.
Nie Rong smiled at the County Magistrate's puzzled expression. "This is Qin Feng, a disciple from Qingshan Mansion. He is my junior and is traveling with me to the capital."
The County Magistrate was taken aback and quickly said, "So it's Qin Jie! Truly a talented young man, a dragon among men."
Qin Feng merely smiled. "County Magistrate, you flatter me. But you haven't answered my question yet."
A flicker of displeasure crossed the County Magistrate's eyes. If it weren't for Nie Rong being present, he would have already scolded someone.
"Cough, cough. As for the Demon Pet, I can't afford such a thing. Besides, I can't even buy a Demon Pet Jade Token," the County Magistrate said with a forced smile.
Nie Rong knew that Qin Feng possessed skills in subduing demons and asked seriously, "Xian Zhi, have you discovered something?"
Qin Feng nodded and pointed towards the back of the county office. "If I'm not mistaken, there is a demon in the County Magistrate's backyard."
"What?"
"That’s impossible."
Nie Rong and the County Magistrate exclaimed simultaneously. The County Magistrate's expression darkened; he wondered if Qin Feng was deliberately trying to provoke him.
"Qin Jie, are you mistaken? The county office is protected by an Official Seal; how could there be a demon?" The County Magistrate suppressed his anger and spoke coolly.
"What if this demon is a Great Demon of the Transformation Realm?" Qin Feng replied with a smile.
"Hah! That’s even more impossible. If there were a Great Demon, it would have killed me long ago. How could I still be alive?" The County Magistrate laughed even harder now, clearly unconvinced.
Nie Rong glanced at Qin Feng and said solemnly, "Whether or not it's a demon can be verified by checking it out."
With that, he stood up directly. The County Magistrate's expression shifted slightly; after all, the backyard was where his family resided. However, he couldn't refuse; that would only make him seem guilty.
He shot a resentful glare at Qin Feng, wondering if he had offended him in any way.
Nie Rong looked at the County Magistrate and asked, "Shall we go take a look? Is that alright?"
The County Magistrate snapped back to reality and quickly smiled. "No problem, no problem! I'll lead the way."
Nie Rong nodded. The County Magistrate walked ahead while Nie Rong intentionally lagged behind to let Qin Feng walk beside him.
He then whispered to Qin Feng, "Xian Zhi, are you confident?"
Qin Feng nodded. "I never lie."
Nie Rong's eyes flickered, and she fell silent.
Nie Xiaoqian expressed her curiosity, "Qin Zi, is it true that there are demons here? This is the county office after all."
Zhu Fang added, "Come on, Brother Qin, you can handle this, right?"
Qin Feng smiled at them and said, "Let’s go in and see. If their strength isn't strong, it's just a Transformation Period."
Zhu Fang pouted, "Only you would have the confidence to say that. If we encounter them, we might as well wait for death."
In the backyard of the county office, the County Magistrate had not walked far when a charming woman with alluring features stepped forward to block his path.
"Oh my, sir, you’re here so early today?" Her voice was sweet and enticing, making one’s heart flutter.
She moved closer, trying to lean against the County Magistrate.
The County Magistrate's expression changed; he hurriedly supported her and said, "Don’t speak carelessly. I’m not alone."
"Huh?" The woman was taken aback and finally noticed Nie Rong and her group approaching.
Nie Xiaoqian glanced nervously at Qin Feng, relieved to see his expression remained calm and indifferent.
She then spat softly in disdain at the woman, muttering under her breath, "Vixen."
Qin Wan'er’s little fox rolled its eyes and thought, "I didn’t provoke you; why are you cursing at me?"
She only dared to grumble internally; after all, this woman might very well be her future mother-in-law.
The County Magistrate quickly turned to Nie Rong and said, "This is my concubine; I apologize for the disturbance."
Nie Rong nodded lightly; having a concubine was quite normal.
The County Magistrate sighed in relief and sternly told the woman, "You should leave quickly; this isn’t your place."
At that moment, the woman didn’t look at anyone else but fixed her gaze on Nie Xiaoqian with a bright smile on her face.
Feeling scrutinized, Nie Xiaoqian raised her brows in irritation. "What are you staring at me for?" she complained.
The County Magistrate sensed something was off and realized that this was Nie Rong's daughter. He hurriedly grabbed the woman's arm and urged her, "Didn’t you hear? Go!"
However, as he pulled her, he stumbled slightly and nearly fell; he couldn’t even move a weak woman.
