Huang Xu's expression suddenly changed. Could it be that they were going to make a move against me?
The others looked bewildered; they still did not know Huang Xu's true identity, only that he came from a decent family.
"Is it Zhenbei Wang?" Qin Feng said casually.
Huang Xu forced a bitter smile. Who else could it be?
"It seems you have obtained some evidence," Qin Feng remarked with a smile.
Huang Xu gritted his teeth and looked up at Qin Feng, "How about I give you the evidence, and you help me take it to the capital?"
Qin Feng was taken aback, then shook his head. "You might still die; they won't let you go."
A resolute look flashed in Huang Xu's eyes. "As long as I can hand the evidence over to Seventh Sister, then death is nothing. I should have died long ago anyway."
The others were startled. Ning Caichen hurriedly said, "Huang Xiong, that's not something to joke about—talking about life and death."
But Qin Feng showed a curious expression. Just how charming was this traveler that a prince would be willing to die for him?
He waved his hand dismissively. "It's not that serious. You all just need to head to the capital as usual; I'm just giving you a heads-up."
Huang Xu's eyes lit up with surprise. "Are you going to the capital with us?"
Qin Feng shook his head. "No, I will arrange for someone to escort you to the capital; you don’t need to worry."
Qin Feng also wanted to meet Zhenbei Wang; he had a feeling he would cross paths with him soon.
Zhou Ziling let out a sigh of relief. "That's great!"
Huang Xu looked at Qin Feng in astonishment. Did he really have subordinates? Was he truly just an ordinary Xiu Cai?
"Thank you, Brother Qin. Once you arrive in the capital, I'll make sure to express my gratitude properly," Huang Xu said quickly, raising his cup. He didn’t want to die after all.
Ning Caichen and the others drank until they were completely intoxicated, while Qin Feng showed no signs of being affected; his face remained unchanged and unflushed.
He instructed Old Fox to send them back to their rooms while he lay back on a chair under the bamboo grove. The stuffiness inside was unbearable; he had grown accustomed to sleeping outdoors.
The next day, everyone bid farewell at the City Gate, and Ning Caichen hurriedly left as well—this time, he rode a horse.
Old Fox had been sent ahead to prepare everything in the capital so they wouldn’t have to stay at an inn upon arrival.
On the ox cart, Zhu Fang and Qin Feng sat outside while inside were Qin Wan'er, Zhu Ling, and a small fox.
On the road, Zhu Fang curiously asked Brother Qin, "What are you doing in Jinhua Prefecture?"
Before Qin Feng could respond, Qin Wan'er popped her head out and laughed, "My brother is here to see his fiancée."
Zhu Fang was taken aback for a moment, then a mischievous smile spread across her face. "I didn't expect Brother Qin to be engaged already! Congratulations!"
Qin Feng shook his head. "I’m not sure yet. I don’t like to force anyone; I’ll see how it goes when I get there."
Zhu Fang looked at Qin Feng in surprise. "But it's a matter of your parents' wishes and the matchmaker's arrangements. If an engagement is set, it shouldn't be taken back."
Qin Feng understood that in ancient times, breaking off an engagement was not looked upon favorably, which was why he wanted to see for himself. Although everyone said Nie Xiaoqian was beautiful, what if she turned out to be ugly? It was better to see her with his own eyes to be sure.
The ox cart slowly made its way toward Jinhua Prefecture, taking its time and swaying gently along the road.
Upon reaching Jinhua Prefecture in Guobei County, two swift horses entered the county town and stopped at an inn.
The two dismounted; one was dressed in fine robes and looked like a handsome young master, while the other, dressed more modestly, also had a pleasing appearance.
As they entered the inn, the young master called out to the waiter, "Bring us a private room."
