The Young Master maintained a faint smile, while the elder behind him suddenly stepped forward, his imposing aura erupting like a tempest.
Hei Lang Wang felt instantly overwhelmed by the pressure. Startled, he glanced at the elder, uncertainly questioning whether he was facing someone at the Golden Core Mid Stage.
The elder shot him a cold glance, retracting his aura and stepping back.
With a cheerful demeanor, the Young Master said, "Please forgive me. If it weren't for Mo Lao, how would I dare to disturb you?"
Realizing that he was only at the initial stage of Golden Core, Hei Lang Wang cast a wary look at the elder and subdued his own arrogance.
"Zhenbei Wang is truly hiding his strength," Hei Lang Wang scoffed.
"It’s merely for self-preservation," the Young Master replied nonchalantly.
"Oh? The court isn't planning to take action against you, are they? With Zhen Mo Wang gone, they shouldn't have the guts to do so," Hei Lang Wang remarked, his green eyes flickering with intrigue.
"Hehe, who knows?" the Young Master did not provide an answer.
"A dignified son of Zhenbei Wang wouldn’t come here to kill a king, would he?" Hei Lang Wang looked at the elder with uncertainty.
With this figure present, he felt no sense of security.
The Young Master smiled lightly and said, "That’s a matter concerning Zhen Mo Si; it has nothing to do with me."
He paused for a moment before slowly continuing, "You are actually one of Tiger King's subordinates, aren’t you?"
Hei Lang Wang was taken aback and scrutinized the Young Master closely. "Zhenbei Wangfu has quite the intelligence network."
He did not deny it; since they had approached him, they must have done their homework.
"What exactly do you want?" Hei Lang Wang finally couldn't hold back and asked.
"Good. Please convey to Tiger King that we might be able to cooperate," the Young Master's expression turned serious as he spoke in a low voice.
"What?" Hei Lang Wang was startled and stood up abruptly. "Cooperate? What are you planning?"
The Young Master gently shook his folding fan and simply smiled at Hei Lang Wang.
Hei Lang Wang's eyes flickered with suspicion. Was Zhenbei Wang aiming to take over the entire northern region?
He had heard of collaborations between humans and demons before. There was once a prince from Da Li who allied with the demon race. The demons caused chaos in cities while he slowly reclaimed territory from behind. The demons received their share of bloodshed while he gained land—an arrangement that seemed mutually beneficial.
However, this angered Zhen Mo Wang, who personally intervened and exterminated those demons; that prince was also slain by him.
Now Zhenbei Wang wanted to unite with Tiger King—this was all too obvious.
"It seems you've figured it out," the Young Master said with a smile as he saw Hei Lang Wang gradually sit back down.
Hei Lang Wang looked up at him, "Aren't you afraid of angering the Da Li Emperor?"
Young Master stood up, "Then it's not your concern. Alright, I've said what I needed to say." With that, he led the old man toward the exit.
Hei Lang Wang watched their retreating figures, his emotions still in turmoil. They failed to notice a large Little Black Snake quietly observing everything from a corner of the cave.
Hei Lang Wang took a deep gulp of wine. It seemed he needed to speak with Chang Gui; she could contact Tiger King directly. He knew Tiger King would surely agree. For the demon clan, it was beneficial—having countless blood offerings would allow them to enhance their cultivation more quickly.
He stood up, his expression changing suddenly as he turned sharply. Who was it? His eyes widened in shock—was that a snake demon? Before him coiled a Black Giant Python measuring several dozen meters.
"How did you get in here?" Hei Lang Wang's hands transformed into wolf claws, glinting coldly as he spoke nervously.
Qin Feng looked at Hei Lang Wang and opened his mouth, "I know all about your little rendezvous."
Hei Lang Wang's face changed. "Then you can die!" He lunged forward with his claws aimed at the snake's body.
If it could sneak in and eavesdrop, then this person was undoubtedly an enemy. His claws pierced through the snake's body, but Hei Lang Wang felt no satisfaction; he hadn’t struck anything solid.
He retracted his claws, but the snake remained unharmed, as if he had just passed through air.
"What on earth are you?" Hei Lang Wang growled, swinging wildly but achieving nothing.
The snake's eyes stared calmly at him. Suddenly, its tail moved with a whoosh of wind—bang!
The tail struck Hei Lang Wang squarely, sending him crashing against the wall.
He spat out a mouthful of blood. The Black Snake's tail shot forward and coiled tightly around him. "What did Tiger King send you and that female ghost here for?"
At those words, Hei Lang Wang's pale face flushed red with anger. "Damn it! Did that foolish girl massacre another village? I told her long ago to keep a low profile!"
The Black Snake replied indifferently, "She slaughtered an entire town."
Hei Lang Wang's pupils constricted. No wonder—she was truly an idiot! He cursed bitterly; did she really think they were invincible? Acting like this would surely attract the attention of powerful humans.
"You must be human, right? Is this your Demon Pet or your magic?" Hei Lang Wang suddenly turned to Qin Feng and asked.
Qin Feng looked at Hei Lang Wang with confusion. "What? Can't I be a demon?"
Hei Lang Wang shook his head. "Demons wouldn’t come looking for trouble with me; only humans would."
Qin Feng nodded slightly. "Now tell me, why are you staying here?"
After a moment of hesitation, Hei Lang Wang asked, "If I tell you, will you let me go?"
Qin Feng nodded. "Yes, as long as you tell me, I won't kill you."
Hei Lang Wang sighed in relief. "I heard that a True Dragon bloodline was born in the north not long ago, but I don't know whether it's a human or a demon. This is my territory, so Tiger King sent us to investigate. That female ghost was also sent by Tiger King to keep an eye on me, afraid that I would take it for myself." A hint of resentment flickered in his eyes as he spoke.
Qin Feng was taken aback. The True Dragon bloodline—could it be referring to his Black Snake? He furrowed his brow, wondering how they had discovered this. However, with so many demons and monsters in this realm, it wasn't too surprising. It seemed he would have to be more cautious about Black Snake from now on; he couldn't expose their relationship before transforming into a dragon.
Then a cold glint flashed in his eyes. Li Liang knew about this—should he kill him? Sighing, he thought about how hard it would be to find someone else if he did. He decided to wait and see; if Li Liang truly revealed Black Snake's existence, then it would be his own fault for being too ruthless. A flash of killing intent passed through Qin Feng.
"You said you wouldn't kill me," Hei Lang Wang exclaimed in shock as he sensed the murderous aura.
Qin Feng snapped back to reality and nodded his serpent head. "I won't kill you." With that, he withdrew his consciousness.
Black Snake's eyes instantly became devoid of emotion, sending a chill down Hei Lang Wang's spine. Then Black Snake opened its mouth wide and lowered its head, swallowing Hei Lang Wang whole in the blink of an eye.
From his recliner, Qin Feng spoke softly, "I said I wouldn't kill you; it's all Black Snake's doing. What does it have to do with me?"
Black Snake then proceeded to devour all the monsters on Wolf Mountain before returning to Qin Feng's side.
As Qin Feng stored Black Snake away, the town fell eerily silent. With the death of the female ghost, all the controlled corpses in the town had decayed into mere bones. Now only a few living people remained—Qin Feng and his companions.
Reclining in his chair, Qin Feng pondered quickly. Zhenbei Wang was actually colluding with the demon clan—was he planning a rebellion? The reason he hadn't killed that Young Master was that he deemed it unnecessary; his goal was to become a Jinshi through the imperial examination.
If he killed that person and provoked Zhenbei Wang into rebelling early, wouldn’t the entire north descend into chaos? Qingshan Mansion would surely be caught up in it as well—how could he participate in the examination then?
Of course, if Zhenbei Wang still rebelled ahead of time, then he would have no choice but to eliminate him. No one could stand in the way of his ambition for the imperial examination; whoever tried would meet death.
Meanwhile, in the cave of Great Maple Mountain, Tiger King was furious. The moment Chang Gui died, he knew something was wrong.
"Damn it! How did Chang Gui die? What is Hei Lang Wang doing?" Tiger King roared in anger.
The monsters trembled in fear, wondering who dared to challenge the King of Tigers. First it was the She Snake, and now it was Chang Gui. "Don't let me find out who you are!"
The Tiger King exuded an overwhelming aura, his roar shaking Dafeng Mountain to its core. All the creatures on the mountain dropped to the ground, faces filled with terror as they gazed towards the cave.
Suddenly, a green barrier erupted from Qingshan Mansion, firmly protecting the entire Fu Cheng. The tiger's roar echoed into the city, causing the citizens to panic and rush home, hastily locking their doors.
Inside the Yamen, Fu Zun looked at the glowing Official Seal with concern. "What has that tiger gone mad about?" Fear flickered in his eyes. He was unfortunate enough to have offended someone and been sent to this place, now stuck with a Tiger King as a companion.
"My lord, don't worry. The Tiger King probably wouldn't dare attack the city; otherwise, Zhen Mo Si would never let him off," an Advisor reassured him.
"Yes, I know, but it's a monster! What if it disregards everything?" Fu Zun sighed.
The Advisor glanced at Fu Zun and said, "It won't be long now. After this Provincial Examination, we can find a few Cai Zi for the court; that should be enough merit for you to leave this place."
A smile finally appeared on Fu Zun's face. "I hope so. By the way, have you arranged those Cai Zi? They must not be allowed to leave."
"My lord, rest assured. They are staying right next to the Yamen; they are perfectly safe."
"That's good." Fu Zun breathed a sigh of relief. He just needed this little bit of merit; as long as one of them could pass the Jinshi exam, he would surely be able to leave.
He had carefully selected promising candidates; they had great potential.
On Dafeng Mountain, after venting his anger, the Tiger King's eyes still burned with fury. He suspected that Hei Lang Wang had betrayed him. Chang Gui was also at the initial stage of ghost king strength; aside from Hei Lang Wang, he couldn't think of anyone else who would dare to kill Chang Gui.
Thus, he dispatched another Chang Gui along with a Golden Core Mid Stage monkey demon—his strongest fighters—to investigate.
Qin Feng set off early in the morning with his horse-drawn carriage to avoid waking Qin Wan'er and facing her questions; sometimes less is more.
Before long, Shangguan Dao brightened up the sky.
Old Black Bull swayed as he pulled the cart forward while Qin Feng lay outside reading a book. Without a merchant caravan to guide him, Qin Feng had to navigate on his own. Fortunately, Black Snake flew high above and could see far ahead while occasionally asking for directions.
He did not stray off course.
That day, Qin Feng suddenly spotted a scholar in the distance carrying a book box and walking slowly.
