"What exactly happened up ahead?"
A flicker of alertness crossed Jiang Wenyu's eyes as her hand shot out like lightning to press the emergency button beside her.
The red button glowed ominously in the dimly lit cabin. As it was activated, straps sprang forth like agile snakes, swiftly binding Lin Zhuang and the other two tightly to their seats.
After securing everyone, Jiang Wenyu turned to Yan Qing, who had just shifted his gaze. Her eyes reflected both inquiry and tension.
Yan Qing frowned deeply, as if he could crush a fly with his brow. He spoke quickly, "There was an explosion up ahead. The situation is unclear; there may be enemies lying in wait. Everyone, be cautious. Staying inside the vehicle is the safest option for now; don’t act recklessly."
His voice was low yet powerful, cutting through the cacophony of explosions that echoed around them.
"Understood." Jiang Wenyu nodded calmly and expertly secured herself with the straps, her movements precise and efficient without a hint of hesitation.
Seeing this, Yan Qing hurriedly followed suit. His hands trembled slightly, but his gaze remained resolute.
The explosions ahead sounded like thunder, each blast a roar from the grim reaper that shook the ground beneath them.
Jiang Ming gripped the steering wheel tightly, veins bulging on his forehead as he fixed his gaze on the flames and smoke rising in front of him. Under his control, the truck maneuvered like a startled beast, weaving through a hail of bullets.
An explosion erupted perilously close to the truck, sending a tremendous shockwave that made the vehicle lurch violently as if it might overturn at any moment.
Gritting his teeth, Jiang Ming yanked the steering wheel hard. The tires screeched against the pavement as he narrowly avoided disaster. However, just as one threat passed, another emerged—a sudden explosion rocked the rear compartment.
Fortunately, the materials used for transporting goods were specially designed with strong shock-absorbing and blast-resistant properties. Still, the force of the blast caused visible bending in the back of the truck, as if an invisible hand had squeezed it fiercely.
The deafening roar from the explosions reverberated in everyone’s minds, threatening to shatter their sanity. Peter huddled beneath his black cloak, trembling like a leaf in a storm, muttering incomprehensible words under his breath.
Seeing this, Zhu Ye Qing quickly reached out with both hands, leaning to the side to embrace him, softly reassuring, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid." Although there was fear in his eyes, there was even more concern for his companion.
Lin Zhuang also frowned, pressing his hands tightly against the iron wall behind him, his knuckles turning white from the strain. Anger and defiance shone in his gaze, as if protesting against the sudden attack.
The atmosphere grew increasingly tense, each person holding their breath as if the air had solidified. Then, suddenly, there was a jolt followed by a heart-stopping tilt.
A tire had fallen off the vehicle, causing it to spiral out of control like a wild bull in madness, swaying left and right as it charged forward erratically.
If they hadn’t been strapped into their seats, nearly all of them would have been thrown out, crashing into each other within the cramped cabin.
Time seemed to stretch on for what felt like a century, but in reality, only two or three minutes passed before the vehicle finally came to a stop.
The back of the cabin was abruptly flung open by Jiang Ming and Drui Feng, their faces drenched in sweat and dust, yet their eyes reflected a sense of relief from surviving the ordeal.
As the rear door swung open and everyone saw Jiang Ming and Drui Feng, their hearts leaped into their throats. The expressions on Jiang Ming and Drui Feng were extremely frantic; their eyes wide open, beads of sweat rolling down their foreheads and mixing with dust to leave streaks on their cheeks.
"What happened?" someone asked anxiously.
Without time to respond, Jiang Ming interrupted urgently, "Get down! There’s an ambush ahead!" His voice was hoarse from tension, each word seeming to be forced out through clenched teeth.
Yan Qing and Jiang Wenyu exchanged glances and immediately sprang into action. They waved their hands while chanting incantations, and colorful lights flickered in their palms until a massive Psychic Ability control circle appeared before them.
This control circle radiated an unusual glow, as if carving out a safe haven in this perilous world.
The four of them carefully guided Lin Zhuang and the other two into the control circle. Their movements were swift yet cautious, not daring to let their guard down for even a moment.
Every movement felt like a race against time, as they had no idea when the enemy would strike again.
They made their way toward the nearby mountains. Along the journey, each person was on high alert, their eyes scanning the surroundings like radar.
Every rustle of the wind sent their nerves into overdrive, muscles tensing involuntarily, ready to respond to any potential danger.
The afternoon dragged on in this tense atmosphere. Even the sunlight seemed affected by the unease, becoming lazy and sluggish, stretching the light into long shadows.
Their silhouettes darted rapidly in the light, like a group of frightened ghosts fleeing across the earth, adding an eerie touch to the tense scene.
The air around them felt as if it had solidified, with only their hurried breaths and heavy footsteps echoing through the mountains, sounding like a symphony on the edge of death.
Just as they hurried toward the mountains, a sudden flurry of wings filled the sky. Like dark clouds blocking out the sun, a group of Flying Ability Users swiftly surrounded them.
Among them, Luo Hong and You Yi stood out prominently. Luo Hong's eyes were as dark as ink, his gaze filled with malice. The Crow Ability he possessed seemed to merge him with the shadows, emanating an ominous aura.
You Yi was agile and swift, like a drawn sword. His Falcon Ability allowed him to move through the air with incredible speed.
Luo Hong looked at Jiang Ming, a mocking smile curling at his lips. With a sardonic tone, he said, "Jiang Ming, we meet again. I never expected you would become my prisoner. I suppose you didn't foresee this day either."
Jiang Ming scoffed, his eyes brimming with disdain. "Indeed, I never thought I would be ambushed by someone as despicable as you. Who bought you off? Let me guess—was it your little mistress from Kyoto?" His words struck at Luo Hong like arrows.
