The air around Yan Qing felt as if it were burning, the confined space of the well amplifying every bit of warmth.
"Hey... don't get too close to me," he said, his voice tinged with a hint of panic. Unable to endure the heat any longer, he turned his head away in a fluster, like a startled fawn.
This hasty movement set the wheels of fate quietly turning.
The soft pink of his earlobe brushed against Jiang Ming's slightly cool lips.
In that moment, time seemed to freeze, and it felt as if fireworks exploded in their minds, leaving them momentarily dazed.
Jiang Ming's heart raced, threatening to burst from his chest, and his cheeks flushed a brilliant red, reminiscent of the evening glow.
Yan Qing's eyes widened in shock, filled with confusion. He felt as if his earlobe had been scorched by fire, the warmth spreading deep into his heart, stirring up all his thoughts.
Not far away, in a corner of the wall, Lu Mingyu and Zhou Xingshu were lost in their own little world.
A tender smile graced Lu Mingyu's lips, and his bright eyes reflected Zhou Xingshu's face. Zhou Xingshu pouted slightly, seemingly playfully saying something as they flirted without a care for anyone around them.
Finally, as if to prove something, Zhou Xingshu suddenly leaned in and kissed the corner of Lu Mingyu's lips, making a soft sound that ended their playful argument.
After the kiss, Zhou Xingshu gently caressed Lu Mingyu's lips with his right hand, eyes filled with affection. He tilted his head slightly, letting his silky hair brush against Lu Mingyu's earlobe. "What do you think about changing places? Would that be okay?"
Lu Mingyu frowned slightly; his gaze was deep like the night. His voice came out a bit husky as he replied, "Maybe not. Moving around is too much trouble. Let's stay in Z City and finish high school first."
Zhou Xingshu hesitated, biting his lower lip, a hint of worry flashing in his eyes. "But there have been two Explosion Incidents at No. 13 recently. It looks like that Mountain God is causing the destruction. Do you think he might discover that we are hiding here?"
Upon hearing Lu Mingyu and Zhou Xingshu discussing serious matters, Jiang Ming and Yan Qing, who were hiding in the trees, immediately composed themselves, holding their breath and daring not to make a sound for fear of missing a single word. Their eyes were filled with tension as they leaned slightly forward, listening intently to the commotion.
"Really? We've been in Z City for two years. If he had found us earlier, why wouldn't he have acted sooner? Besides, with his abilities, why would he need to make such a fuss? He could just capture us directly without resorting to such underhanded tactics like a terrorist attack. It seems more like the work of someone else rather than that Mountain God," Lu Mingyu said, his brow slightly furrowed, a flicker of contemplation in his eyes. His calm and rational nature was on full display at that moment.
Lu Mingyu gently pushed Zhou Xingshu aside, his long fingers casually shaking off the dust that had clung to his clothes from leaning against the wall. The movement was both elegant and nonchalant.
"But..." Zhou Xingshu frowned, lowering his head slightly as his soft hair fell over half of his face.
He caught sight of Lu Mingyu's handsome features illuminated by the moonlight, and his worry deepened. "What if it really is the Mountain God? What if he finds out that we caused the fire in the mountains two years ago? Will he come after us?"
Hearing this, Lu Mingyu quickly pressed his index and middle fingers against Zhou Xingshu's lips, his expression turning serious. "Don't say such things. No one else could possibly know about this."
There was a hint of warning in Lu Mingyu's gaze; he didn't want Zhou Xingshu making baseless speculations that could disturb their current peace.
Zhou Xingshu instinctively grasped Lu Mingyu's fingers. "But the Mountain God has appeared in Z City one after another. Do you think that's just a coincidence?"
Lu Mingyu narrowed his eyes slightly, crossing his arms with a serious yet confident demeanor. "I can't say for sure, but I can assure you that this isn't the work of the Mountain God. After all, someone like him has no need to play such tricks."
His gaze was resolute, as if he had seen through all conspiracies and was completely confident in his judgment.
Zhou Xingshu bit his lip lightly, the worry in his eyes gradually fading away. He nodded slightly. "Alright then, since you say so, let's finish high school here in Z City before we leave." With that, a sweet smile crept onto his lips, and in his eyes, there was only the figure of Lu Mingyu. It seemed that as long as he was there, all dangers were insignificant.
The two of them finished speaking and once again immersed themselves in each other's affection. Zhou Xingshu wrapped his arms around Lu Mingyu's neck, while Lu Mingyu held him tightly at the waist. Their eyes met, filled with love, and they indulged in sweet nothings for a while before gracefully leaping off the 3-meter-high wall, their movements light and fearless.
Not long after they left, a rustling sound came from the tree above, followed by a "thud" as two figures fell to the ground—Yan Qing and Jiang Ming.
Yan Qing lay awkwardly on the ground, his cheeks flushed as if scorched by fire, the redness spreading to his earlobes. He hurriedly lifted his head, a hint of embarrassment flashing in his eyes. Jiang Ming was not much better; his face was as red as a ripe apple, his usually stern expression now filled with shyness.
Yan Qing was the first to regain his composure. He sprang to his feet and shook off the dry leaves and twigs from his clothes, as if trying to rid himself of the inexplicable emotions that clung to him.
Clearing his throat twice, he attempted to mask his discomfort and adjusted his expression. He did not turn to look at Jiang Ming beside him but kept his gaze fixed ahead, his voice tinged with barely noticeable tension. "Um... from their conversation, it seems they were under your jurisdiction before. If you don't remember them, do you recall the fire they mentioned?"
Jiang Ming also turned slightly away from Yan Qing, brushing off the dust from his arms vigorously in an effort to calm himself.
"I remember that fire well; it was massive and nearly burned down half a mountain. In the end, it took most of the Water Ability users inside the mountain to extinguish it," he replied.
A flicker of anger crossed Jiang Ming's eyes as he clenched his fists unconsciously. "I've been searching for that arsonist for so long and never thought they'd hide here." His teeth ground together audibly at the end of his sentence, fury radiating from him as if it could ignite the air around them.
Yan Qing frowned slightly, thoughtfully stroking his chin. "Oh, now that we've found the arsonists, should we capture them? From what they said, it seems they have no connection to this explosion incident. It could very well be the work of that Hei Yu organization we saw earlier today."
Jiang Ming nodded vigorously, determination flashing in his eyes. "It seems indeed to be Hei Yu's doing. However, I won't let these two go either. Once this incident is over, I'll take them back to the mountain for proper discipline."
His fists tightened even more as he envisioned capturing those two, an undeniable authority radiating from his usually stoic face.
