As the first light of dawn appeared on the horizon, Lin Han suddenly woke up from his dreams. The sound of the wind howled in his ears, and he looked around to see that everyone else was still fast asleep.
What was going on? He and Qin Luoxi were supposed to be on night watch as part of the fourth team, yet no one had called him. Even more strangely, Long Guang, the Ancient Golden Dragon, was peacefully sleeping beside Han Fei, drooling in his slumber.
The temperature around them was extremely low, at least minus sixty or seventy degrees, with a thin layer of frost covering the entire desert. However, compared to the chill in the air, Lin Han felt an even deeper sense of dread.
“Everyone wake up! We need to check if anyone is missing!” Lin Han hurriedly called out to the others. Thankfully, everyone was present, which eased his worries.
What happened? Was there no night watch last night?
Han Fei rubbed his sleepy eyes, feeling as if he had slept incredibly soundly the previous night. “Night watch? Oh no! I think I fell asleep!” Upon hearing Lin Han's question, Han Fei tried to recall what had happened and suddenly exclaimed in panic.
“Fat Cat, did you fall asleep too?”
It seemed that Fat Cat had also dozed off.
Xue Wushuang looked a bit embarrassed; after all, in such a dangerous Deputy Zone, any mishap could lead to dire consequences.
While the two were feeling guilty, Lin Han remained calm. Something didn’t feel right; it seemed there were rules governing the night here. Just then, they noticed a steep slope ahead, but the Sand Scorpion beneath them showed no signs of awareness.
As the first rays of sunlight illuminated the desert, a massive Sand Scorpion tumbled down from a dune. Occasionally, they could hear distant screams echoing through the air, but those did not seem to belong to this fierce creature.
After what felt like an eternity, Lin Han finally sensed that they had come to a stop. His body was half-buried in sand, and with a powerful leap, he stood up.
"Is everyone alright?"
In the next moment, Lin Han was stunned. All he could see was a pair of small feet sticking out of the sand, with nothing else around. Not far away, the Sand Scorpion that had just woken up was lying on its back, helplessly staring at its own legs as they flailed about.
The situation was dire, but it wasn't entirely unexpected. Although Lin Han had reminded everyone, none of them were fully awake yet and had made no preparations.
As the other nine were pulled out from the sand, Han Fei was utterly speechless, wearing an expression of complete exasperation. "Lin Han, I hate you!"
"Lin Han, what did you do to Han Fei? We're good brothers; you can't betray me like this!"
Xue Wushuang, who had just cleared the sand from his head, immediately became agitated upon hearing such explosive words.
Lin Han was at a loss for words. "What are you talking about? I'm not that kind of person!"
"Can we discuss this? Let's not use this equipment anymore; it's just too much," Lin Han pleaded.
Qin Luoxi sighed deeply as he looked at everyone covered in dirt and dust. "There's really no other way; this is the most efficient method." He turned to Chen Huan'er and asked, "What's our exploration level now?"
At that moment, Chen Huan'er finally understood why Qin Luoxi and the others were so wary of the Speedy Slippers. If they were this terrifying even under the feet of a ferocious beast, one could only imagine the effect if a person wore them.
After searching for a while, she finally found Yi Lan and wiped off the dust from her.
