In the front-line outpost of the Military Department at the Border, members of the Dragon Tooth Squad and Hao Hai Squad arrived and were instructed to wait in the main hall. Only Lin Han, the captain, was granted an audience with the person in charge.
They understood the situation well; after all, it was the official start of the Star Dragon Festival competition, and the Military Academy and Military Department essentially functioned as a single entity during this time. Shi Er, the overall commander of the outpost, sat comfortably in his chair, watching his junior with keen interest.
Having graduated from the Military Academy, Lin Han had been assigned to the Border battlefield, where he had spent a whole year. His senior had never considered returning home. Lin Han swallowed some water, reflecting that after a year on the Border battlefield, he could have gone back to his hometown and taken up a position as an Academy Dean or a guild leader, simply leveling up in Dungeons instead of fighting for survival in such a harsh environment.
There are some things you don’t understand yet. Once you’re assigned out of the academy, you’ll realize why we must guard this place. Shi Er chuckled lightly, then continued, “We are among the strongest in the entire Star Dragon Empire’s Beast Master community. If we don’t hold this ground, who will?”
Hearing this, Lin Han sighed; these ferocious beasts were indeed a significant problem. “Let’s talk about your competition,” Shi Er suggested. “This time, your ability to connect with the Military Department was largely thanks to that old man’s influence.”
As he spoke, Shi Er pulled several prepared documents from his drawer and laid them on the table. “The beasts outside the Border are exceptionally brutal and far beyond what you’ve encountered before. However, you’ve faced Cultists multiple times; dealing with these creatures shouldn’t be too much of an issue for you.”
Lin Han began to examine the documents on the table. The first item was a map detailing all potential beast distribution locations around the Star Dragon Empire’s Di Jing region. Another document outlined the approximate time required for battles in each beast territory. Facing established groups of ferocious beasts would undoubtedly take longer, but naturally, the points earned would be greater.
“After learning about this competition process, I started gathering information,” Shi Er explained. “Most of those stationed here at this outpost are our Military Academy students. Once they heard about this opportunity to hunt ferocious beasts, they were eager to participate.”
Leaning closer to Lin Han, Shi Er added, “Other academies will surely try to obtain this information too, but they won’t have anything as detailed as what you have here!”
“Then let me express my gratitude on behalf of my teammates for your help!” Lin Han said as he stood up and raised his water bottle in salute.
“We’re all family; there’s no need for such formalities,” Shi Er replied with a wave of his hand.
Just as Lin Han was about to say something else, a message came through on the outpost's dedicated communication line.
“Lin Han, wait a moment!” Shi Er called out before picking up the phone. “Hello, this is Shi Er. What’s going on?”
“Commander Shi, there’s been an incident at Disordered Forest; the threshold has reached peak levels again! We need support!”
“I understand. I’ll arrange for personnel immediately.” Upon hearing the voice on the other end of the line, Shi Er’s expression shifted; it seemed they were facing a tricky situation.
