In front of countless towering mechanical structures, a squad moved slowly forward. At the forefront was a middle-aged man with thick eyebrows, his expression grim, and a massive axe strapped to his back that was nearly as tall as he was. Beside him stood two similarly dressed mercenaries, a man and a woman, both wearing troubled expressions. The man appeared to be in his thirties, while the woman, though plain in appearance, bore traces of blood on her clothes.
Following these three were four members of the Dragon Tooth Squad, keeping their distance. The mechanical beasts they faced had thick blood.
“It’s tough,” said Xue Wushuang, fatigue evident on his face, his eyes bloodshot and red as he rubbed his fists together.
“Shh, there’s movement ahead!” Chen Huan'er whispered, her left eye shimmering with a silver hue. A few hundred meters away, Ling Ya circled high above, providing them with a vantage point.
“How many are there?”
Qin Luoxi, who appeared to be the least injured among them, quietly hovered at the back of the group, the Bloodthirsty Soul Blade in his hand glinting ominously.
“Two… three… four… five! There are five Mechanical Species. Should we take a detour?” Chen Huan'er asked uncertainly.
“No. If we delay any longer, we won’t be able to regroup with the main force. Just ahead is the core of the Mechanical Furnace; we need to reach it to proceed,” the middle-aged man with the axe replied darkly.
Throughout this journey, without the help of these four young individuals behind them, their mercenary squad would likely have been wiped out long ago.
“I’ll lure them away; you all take the chance to rush past. Don’t get caught up in fighting,” Qin Luoxi decided firmly, his form shifting into darkness as he vanished from sight.
“Be careful,” warned the middle-aged mercenary in a low voice.
Qin Luoxi paid him no mind and instead made his way several hundred meters away to a low wall. Perched on his shoulder was an Azure Phantom Fox, its tail flickering with eerie blue flames. It let out a soft cry as it enveloped Qin Luoxi in a shroud of black smoke.
Not only had its form vanished, but even its presence had disappeared without a trace.
Qin Luoxi gradually approached the collapsed ruins, where several shadowy figures, about half a person tall, were moving in a fixed pattern. The sound of tracks moving across the ground was quite pronounced, and among them were two half-human Mechanical Lifeforms. They hovered above the ground, their bodies equipped with multiple mechanical arms.
Four Mechanical Vanguard units and two Pioneers were present. Qin Luoxi quietly surveyed the situation, completely unaware that at that very moment, not far from him, an Infrared Probe was constantly capturing images of the area he occupied. As Qin Luoxi attempted to move closer, a sudden disturbance erupted beneath his feet. With a loud crash, two Mechanical Tentacles, each five meters long, shot up, piercing through the thick concrete floor and sweeping toward his position.
This was bad—an ambush!
Qin Luoxi reacted with lightning speed as blue flames ignited around him, rapidly spreading to engulf the Mechanical Tentacles. However, it was clear that the flames could only slow their advance; for Qin Luoxi, this brief moment was enough for him to respond.
With agile grace, he leaped into the air and swung his Cry Blood Soul Blade, sending a red arc slicing through the air that accurately pierced the location of the Infrared Probe in the distance. The probe was impaled by the blade's edge, causing the mechanical pipes connected below to shake violently as if they were experiencing pain.
The Unknown Tentacles reaching for Qin Luoxi also retracted into the ground within a short span of time.
