Suddenly, a few Mushroom Beasts lazily lounged by the edge of a pool when a sound cut through the air.
In the distance, splashes erupted on the water's surface as several Mushroom Beasts approached, their mouths emitting fiery water balls and stones that made noise as they spewed forth from the grass.
The grass was silent, the flames quickly extinguished, and the water balloons scattered, with stones falling into the underbrush without a sound. A few Mushroom Beasts became alert, with the leading Fire Mushroom Beast rising to peek into the thicket.
However, as soon as it poked its head in, its entire body was suspended in mid-air before disappearing into the foliage. The two remaining Mushroom Beasts behind were startled. They began to unleash a barrage of attacks towards the thicket until it was soaked, yet there was still no response.
Exchanging glances, the two Mushroom Beasts cautiously moved closer to investigate. At that moment, Lin Han extended his claws, grabbing each of their heads and smashing them together with a loud thud. The two Mushroom Beasts rolled their eyes and then wobbled before collapsing to the ground.
Mission accomplished. Lin Han signaled for the others to get up, and the squad stealthily followed behind him. They leaped over the ten or so fallen Mushroom Beasts sprawled on the ground, moving swiftly.
Ahead lay an open area; scanning the surroundings revealed no signs of any Mushroom Beasts. Yet instinctively, Lin Han and his team slowed their pace and concealed themselves. In their previous encounters when they had absolute power, dealing with these minor Kalamai had been effortless.
But now, reverting to their original combat style, they realized that even these low-level creatures had their own tactics. Many Mushroom Beasts had hidden underground during their advance, waiting for the right moment to pop up and unleash fiery blasts or hurl stones at them, each employing their own methods.
While none were fatal, they certainly hindered progress. Gazing at the flat expanse before him, Lin Han instinctively tossed a stone, watching it roll away quickly across the ground.
