"What are you thinking about, Lin Zi?" I was checking our academy forum, and someone has already opened a betting pool.
"A betting pool for what?"
"Of course for the Dragon Tooth Battle Consort! Who will become the champion of the Freshman Competition? There are so many comments below discussing your performance!" Xue Wushuang exclaimed, gesturing animatedly.
Lin Han chuckled lightly. "It's pointless. You should spend your time improving yourself instead of getting distracted by this kind of thing."
Xue Wushuang turned around, full of enthusiasm. "I'm just taking care of my Da Miao! Once it hatches, it will definitely be the most eye-catching presence in the whole place!"
Lin Han glanced at Fat Cat, who was wearing a set of maternity clothes from who knows where, and couldn't help but twitch his lips in amusement. "Don't let anyone know I know you. Besides, why bother hatching a Beast Egg? Just spend some money at the Hatching Center."
"You don't understand! This is about nurturing! After all, Da Miao is my first feline Beast!" Xue Wushuang insisted.
"Well, as long as you're happy." Lin Han decided not to waste any more time with this cat fanatic. He got up, put on his clothes, and headed for the door.
As he stepped outside, Lin Han noticed something was off; everyone's gaze seemed to converge on him simultaneously. That strange feeling made him incredibly uncomfortable.
While there had been whispers when the Dragon Tooth Squad completed those Dungeons, the intensity of the stares now felt different. As he walked through the academy, feeling the weight of countless eyes on him, Lin Han finally reached his breaking point.
He scanned the crowd and spotted a familiar face. The other person seemed to notice him too; as their eyes met, they hurriedly tried to escape but were caught by Lin Han, who grabbed them by the collar.
If it weren't against academy rules to summon a Beast, he would have loved to ride his Blazing Fire Qilin and leap out of the crowd.
Dragging the person along, Lin Han made his way toward a secluded alley. Once he felt they were out of sight, he turned to Lin Zihao with an interrogative tone.
"What should I say? You, Lin Linhan, should show me a bit of respect since I'm your senior, right?"
Lin Zihao's voice trembled slightly. The person he had been praising just yesterday was standing right in front of him, and he couldn't believe he hadn't recognized her at first. The awkwardness of the moment was palpable.
"Speak," Lin Han said, her expression darkening with impatience.
Lin Zihao hurriedly continued, "This morning, news broke that the Dragon Tooth Squad is set to battle Han Fei's Dragon Consort Squad. You must be aware of this."
Lin Han remained silent, indicating for him to go on.
"Someone opened a betting line as a joke, but then a significant figure placed a bet. The senior who opened the line got so scared that he ran off. Because of this incident, the betting lines for your squads have now been taken over by the academy's Merchant Guild."
Upon hearing this, Lin Han's expression shifted. She had heard of the Merchant Guild; it was responsible for managing all financial dealings within the academy.
"But why would the Merchant Guild bother with such a small betting line?" she wondered aloud. "Wait, who placed the bet?"
"Wu Qinghong," Lin Zihao swallowed hard, his tone laced with trepidation.
"Who is she?" Lin Han asked naturally, only to see Lin Zihao look at her as if she were an oddity.
"You don't even know Wu Qinghong? She's the chief instructor of our Military Academy's Class Thirteen!"
