Lin Xu limped into the classroom, her ankle still throbbing from the sprain she had suffered while climbing over the wall last night. Just as she gritted her teeth and shuffled toward her seat, a bright voice called out from behind, "Hey, Lin Xu, why are you walking so strangely?" 0

Turning around, she saw Yao Tingting. Lin Xu forced a smile and replied, "It's nothing, I just twisted my ankle yesterday." 0

"You twisted it?" Ji Jiumei suddenly appeared out of nowhere. "It wasn't because you sneaked out over the wall, was it?" She blinked playfully, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. 0

Lin Xu's heart skipped a beat. "How... how did you know?" 0

"Hehe," Ji Jiumei said proudly, "I happened to see you and Ye Feng running out from the back wall after school yesterday." She leaned closer to Lin Xu and lowered her voice, "So, how did the date go?" 0

Lin Xu's face flushed instantly. "It wasn't a date! It was just... just..." She stammered, unable to find the words. 0

"Alright, alright, I won't tease you anymore," Ji Jiumei laughed. "But you really need to take care of yourself. Let me take you to the infirmary." 0

"No need..." Lin Xu started to refuse, but Ji Jiumei had already grabbed her wrist. 0

"Don't be shy; let's go!" Ji Jiumei insisted as she pulled Lin Xu along. 0

As they reached the door, He Miao walked in and brushed past them. Lin Xu noticed He Miao glance at them with an unusual expression in her eyes. 0

In the infirmary, Ji Jiumei applied medicine to Lin Xu's injury while chattering away. "You seem smart most of the time; how could you be so careless? What if you had hurt yourself worse?" 0

Lin Xu kept her head down and murmured, "Thank you, Jiumei." 0

"What are you thanking me for?" Ji Jiumei waved her hand dismissively. "We're friends! By the way, about you and Ye Feng..." 0

Just then, He Miao suddenly appeared at the door of the infirmary. "Jiumei, can I talk to you for a moment?" 0

Ji Jiumei paused for a second and glanced at Lin Xu. Lin Xu nodded slightly. "You go ahead; I'll be fine on my own." 0

Watching them leave together stirred a wave of unease within Lin Xu. Memories of being isolated in the past flooded back—those feelings of exclusion still sent chills down her spine. 0

"It won't happen again," she reassured herself silently. "Jiumei isn't like that." 0

But as she saw He Miao and Ji Jiumei whispering in the hallway, occasionally glancing in her direction, her anxiety grew stronger. 0

"Lin Xu," the doctor’s voice brought her back to reality. "All done. Remember to change the bandage every day." 0

"Thank you, doctor." Lin Xu forced herself to stand up and limped back toward the classroom. 0

As she passed through the hallway, she overheard He Miao saying, "...Did you know? Back in middle school..." 0

Lin Xu froze in her tracks. She knew He Miao was probably saying something bad about her, but she didn't know what to do. Should she step forward and explain? But what good would that do? 0

Upon returning to the classroom, Lin Xu found Ji Jiumei's seat empty. The entire morning passed without Ji Jiumei returning. A chill settled deeper in Lin Xu's heart as regret began to creep in for her impulsive actions yesterday. If it hadn't been for that birthday party, if it hadn't been for Ye Feng... 0

During lunchtime, Lin Xu sat alone in a corner. Suddenly, a tray was placed in front of her. 0

"Why are you hiding here all by yourself?" It was Ji Jiumei's voice. 0

Lin Xu looked up to see Ji Jiumei smiling at her. 0

"I..." Lin Xu opened her mouth, unsure of what to say. 0

"He Miao told me a lot about you," Ji Jiumei said as she sat down. "She said you used to be this and that." 0

Lin Xu's heart sank. 0

"But I think everything she said is nonsense!" Ji Jiumei suddenly raised her voice. "I don't believe any of it. I trust my own judgment; you're a good person, and that's enough for me." 0

Lin Xu was taken aback, tears welling up in her eyes. 0

"Don't cry," Ji Jiumei said with a smile. "By the way, let me show you something cool." She pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket. "I just went to ask the homeroom teacher for the class list. Guess what? We’re in the same dormitory as sophomores!" 0

Lin Xu's tears finally fell. 0

"Hey, why are you such a crybaby?" Ji Jiumei handed her a tissue. "But it's okay; now that we're roommates, I can keep an eye on you every day so you won't sneak out and get hurt on dates." 0

"It's not a date..." Lin Xu retorted, blushing. 0

"Alright, alright, not a date," Ji Jiumei teased with a grin. "By the way, I heard there's a new transfer student named Luo Yichuan, and he's quite handsome." 0

Just then, there was a commotion at the classroom door. A tall boy walked in and stood at the front of the class. The homeroom teacher followed behind and clapped his hands: "Class, quiet down! Let me introduce our new student, Luo Yichuan." 0

Ji Jiumei suddenly nudged Lin Xu: "Hey, it looks like he’s going to sit next to me!" 0

Lin Xu looked up and saw the homeroom teacher pointing to the empty seat next to Ji Jiumei. Luo Yichuan walked over expressionlessly and elegantly took his seat. 0

"Hi there, I'm Ji Jiumei!" she greeted enthusiastically. 0

Luo Yichuan merely nodded and took out his textbooks from his backpack with meticulous movements. 0

"Wow, he's so aloof," Ji Jiumei whispered to Lin Xu. "But that's okay; I love making friends with cool people like him, heehee." 0

Watching Ji Jiumei's playful demeanor made Lin Xu feel warm inside. Perhaps this was true friendship—no need for too many explanations, just mutual trust was enough. 0

After school, as Lin Xu packed her bag, she suddenly heard an exclamation from behind her. 0

"Hey!" Ji Jiumei shouted. "What are you doing?" 0

It turned out Luo Yichuan was wiping the table with a tissue, looking disgusted as he said, "Can you clean up your snack crumbs?" 0

"I'm just about to clean up!" Ji Jiumei protested. "Besides, it's just a few crumbs. You're being too much of a neat freak!" 0

Luo Yichuan frowned. "Maintaining cleanliness is the most basic quality." 0

"Hmph," Ji Jiumei suddenly flashed a mischievous smile and scattered all the crumbs from her hand onto Luo Yichuan's desk. "Then you can clean it up slowly!" 0

With that, she grabbed Lin Xu and ran off, leaving behind Luo Yichuan's helpless sigh. 0

Lin Xu couldn't help but laugh. "Jiumei, that's not very nice, is it?" 0

"It's fine, it's fine," Ji Jiumei said proudly. "This is called using someone's own methods against them. Besides..." She suddenly stopped, looking mysterious. "Did you notice? He was staring at Ye Xiao just now." 0

"Ye Xiao?" Lin Xu was taken aback. "You mean..." 0

"Shh!" Ji Jiumei made a silencing gesture. "This is my major discovery; let's observe for a bit." 0

As Lin Xu watched Ji Jiumei's spirited demeanor, he suddenly felt that life had become interesting. So this is what it feels like to have a close friend. 0

Just then, his phone vibrated unexpectedly. It was a text message: [Lin Xu, this is the Admissions Office of Peking University. Regarding the previous call, we hope to discuss further with you...] 0

Lin Xu's hand trembled slightly. 0
