Jiu Ji, bestowed with the name by Yun Zhi Yue, cast a glance at Hei Shijiu, feeling both irritated and helpless. The Ten Yama Kings had all recovered from the Pseudo-Emperor Realm, showing great promise, yet their relative strength had also fallen back to Zun Jing. Xian Kong wore a broad smile on his face. "Aren't you the Heibai Shi? During the previous chaos in the Underworld, we didn't see you stepping forward to take charge. I thought all of you Ming Jun were completely indifferent to the affairs of the Underworld. It is indeed an honor to meet His Majesty now that he has ascended to the throne."
"If we hadn't stepped in, how far would you have gone with your antics? You, a mere human soul, have only just arrived in the Underworld and already hold the position of Nine Halls Yama? And you, Hei Shijiu, who belongs to Heibai Shi—who gave you the right to assume the role of Dian Yanluo?"
Jiu Ji maintained a stern expression. "Hei Shijiu is a waste of His Majesty's name; I am Yan Luo Jiu Ji."
The leader of Heibai Mingjun rebuked angrily, "This is simply outrageous! We Heibai Shi are guardians of the Underworld, upholding the Ten Halls of Yama through generations and maintaining its operations. The only reason for our resignation is due to Soul Shattered! How dare you disregard us and take over the Yan Luo position? What punishment do you deserve for this?"
Jiu Ji replied coldly, "During the turmoil in the Underworld, you stood by idly, and now you dare to speak so boldly after everything has calmed down? If it weren't for His Majesty's efforts to restore the Ten Halls of Yama, there would be wails of souls echoing throughout the Underworld right now. What right do you have to criticize us after it has all settled?"
"Impudent! The chaos within the Underworld is an inevitable darkness that comes with the transition of kings. Just wait; a new Ming Wang Dan will emerge soon enough. You young ones respect outsiders as if they were His Majesty while attempting to stifle Ming Wang Dan—this is unforgivable! If you do not repent, prepare to enter Purgatory for punishment!"
Jiu Ji remained expressionless. "I am Dian Yanluo and will not be controlled by your Heibai Shi. If I come to attend this grand ceremony, I will enter; if I choose not to participate, no one can compel me."
"Arrogant!" Di Wei pressed down on him as Jiu Ji remained calm and composed.
The Hei Shi who had struck out was astonished and turned his attention back to Xian Kong, who appeared unfazed by their confrontation.
How could this be? Just a mere Zun Jing could withstand Di Wei?
Li Shang's gaze flickered over Xian Kong at dawn. Jiu Ji's wrist adorned with Hei Sheng caught his eye, and displeasure flashed in his eyes at Yun Zhi Yue's hair.
Jiu Ji couldn't be bothered to explain further as Xian Kong maintained his courteous demeanor. "You have been in seclusion for quite some time and have yet to meet His Majesty. It would be unwise to judge based solely on assumptions."
"The previous king may have been the strongest in history, but today's majesty will only grow stronger—not just in strength but also in dedication to the Underworld."
"What concerns you is merely that the new king should be legitimate; but what does that matter? It seems you treat the Underworld as expendable. Perhaps you should consider what kind of master is truly needed for it."
The Heibai Shi fell silent; they knew best whether their king was truly dead or missing.
The delay in appointing a new king stemmed from one fundamental issue: the previous king had never actually died.
Seeing that these old stubborn ones had quieted down, Jiu Ji sneered. "Follow me, Yan Luo will arrange accommodations for you."
Xian Kong led Yun Shijiu and others towards the Underworld King's Palace.
On the road, Su Ye smirked, "It seems that the underworld has a rather poor opinion of the former King of Hell. Do they speak so freely in front of outsiders?"
Xian Kong responded, "I haven't been in the underworld long, so I'm not sure what contributions the previous King made. However, when I arrived, the underworld was in disarray, and as an outsider, I easily infiltrated the upper echelons.
