The car door was yanked open, and with a mischievous grin, Yun Shijiu hopped inside, tapping the partition to signal the driver. "Sorry to scare you. Keep driving."
Yun Shijiu was still dressed in a fashionable manner, though the cuffs of his light-colored knit sweater bore traces of blood.
Nie Langyuan felt a chill run down his spine as he glanced out the window. This was no rest area; it was a winding mountain road with no villages or shops in sight, and not a single car on the road. How could Yun Shijiu be waiting here?
And that bloodstain...
Could he have just come from Feng Rujiao's place? But they were nearly half an hour away by car, and the accident had just happened. He couldn't bear to think further; Nie Langyuan's face turned pale as he curled himself into a tight corner, trying to distance himself from this troublesome sibling.
Nie Zhui sat still like a mountain, seemingly lost in thought.
Nie Xi opened her eyes and immediately took an interest in the bloodstained sleeve. Sitting up straight, she asked, "What kind of trouble did you get into? Why didn't you bring your sister along?"
Yun Shijiu shrugged his sleeve and smiled innocently. "I went to kill someone. Want to join next time?"
Nie Xi shook her head. "Sister doesn't like me that way; don't lead me astray."
Yun Shijiu scoffed. "You don't need my help for that. With your black heart and dark intentions, only my sister would take a liking to you."
The rest of his words were swallowed under Yun Zhi Yue's warm gaze.
Yun Shijiu rolled up his sleeve to reveal a wound on his wrist. "Just kidding; it's my own blood."
Yun Zhi Yue rummaged through the car for the first aid kit and carefully tended to Yun Shijiu's injury. Frowning, she said, "You're all grown up now, yet you talk nonsense like this. People might think there's something wrong with us siblings. Next time, watch what you say; look at how pale Nie Er Shao is."
Yun Shijiu glanced over, and Nie Langyuan shivered slightly.
For some reason, this struck Yun Shijiu as hilarious, and he burst into laughter. "Is your courage really that small? I didn't kill anyone over at Feng Rujiao's place; why are you so scared?"
Nie Langyuan's lips trembled slightly, feeling faint as his voice quivered. "How do you know someone died over at Feng Rujiao?"
The laughter abruptly ceased as Yun Shijiu met Yun Zhi Yue's increasingly gentle gaze, feeling a bit awkward as he kicked Yun Yue Shi lightly. "How do I know?"
Yun Yue Shi flipped her phone around to show him a message she had sent to Yun Shijiu just two hours earlier. "I texted you before you got in the car. Did you forget already?"
Yun Shijiu let out a quiet sigh of relief and laughed heartily. "Look at my brain! That's why I say I can only make money and not do research; our family’s second child is definitely the smartest."
Nie Langyuan grew more anxious as he sought clarity, probing deeper. "This is a winding mountain road with no villages or shops around; how did you end up here alone?"
Yun Shijiu pretended not to hear and pouted while rubbing her neck. "Sister, I slept awkwardly last night, and my neck hurts so much."
Yun Zhi Yue glanced over but still reached out to massage her neck to relieve the pain.
Yun Yue Shi took on the responsibility of answering all questions. "To develop Gui You Company in the capital, Shijiu plans to create a mobile game and needs to find inspiration from the mountain roads."
Once the driver dropped him off halfway up the mountain, he returned, leaving Shijiu alone to quietly wait for us. Nie Er Shao seemed to be influenced by Feng Rujiao and found our sibling trio suspicious.
But wasn't this also a kind of hint? All three of us were orphans, which inevitably meant we had some flaws in our personalities. However, that didn’t imply any unlawful behavior, nor was there any need for such assumptions.
Er Shao shouldn't be paranoid and scare himself. We siblings undergo health check-ups every year; we are definitely normal people. This is reality, not a movie, and Er Shao's thinking was a bit out of touch.
Nie Langyuan didn't believe this at all, but he forced himself to accept it; otherwise, he feared he would scare himself to death.
