Nie Zhui didn’t look up as he said, "Come in."
A well-dressed male secretary with a strange expression entered. "Nie Zong, a Miss Yun from the front desk wants to see you. She didn’t make an appointment and claims to be your... acquaintance."
Nie Zhui paused for a moment, then raised his eyes and said, "Show her in."
Nie Langyuan was already wide awake, looking impressed. It was quite bold of her to come uninvited—did she think news wouldn’t reach the capital?
The sound of high heels clicking grew louder as she approached. Nie Zhui's gaze flickered; she seemed to always dress simply, and he had never seen her in high heels before.
When the door opened, a refreshing scent of grass wafted in.
Her long, lazy curls cascaded to one side, paired with a chic short jacket and a fitted skirt that accentuated her curves. Her accessories were minimal yet perfectly chosen—elegant without being ostentatious, far from the casual style of the moment.
She was already stunningly beautiful, exuding an icy elegance. Dressed like this, her aura felt almost untouchable—except for Nie Zhui.
A flash of surprise crossed Nie Zhui's eyes as he extended his hand. "You’re not working today; what brings you here?"
Yun Zhi Yue stepped closer and settled onto his lap as he embraced her.
Damn, how irritating. Yun Zhi Yue didn’t show any signs of her thoughts.
With a huff, she complained, "I quit my job; otherwise, I’d be driven crazy. Yesterday afternoon while I was sweeping, several trucks full of persimmons spilled everywhere. She’s really something; she can handle anything."
Nie Zhui didn’t press for answers he already knew but simply remarked, "Didn’t you say it was necessary to sweep? That job..."
Yun Zhi Yue giggled mischievously. "I was just teasing you; sweeping is merely a hobby. You believe whatever I say? Is this how the leader of Zhi Yao Yan Tuan behaves?"
Nie Zhui tightened his grip around her waist. "Of course I believe you."
Yun Zhi Yue stopped smiling and locked eyes with him. The atmosphere between them wasn’t exactly flirtatious; it was something others couldn’t intrude upon—not even Nie Langyuan.
Feeling out of place, Nie Langyuan interjected, "Should I step out?"
Yun Zhi Yue replied, "No need for that; I came to discuss something serious. When are you going back to the capital?"
Nie Langyuan shot her a look. "Isn’t this obvious? My brother has been charmed by you and refuses to leave. What do you suggest we do?"
Yun Zhi Yue rolled her eyes at him. "Please! Who’s really charming whom? I’ve always maintained a stance of refusal; that’s not important."
I just quit my job, planning to take my younger brothers to the capital. Xiao Shi has been holding down the fort at the research institute in the capital for my sake, and Shijiu wants to expand Gui Yi Company a bit. If you all are going, why don't we go together?
Nie Langyuan was taken aback. "After all the trouble you've had with Feng Rujiao, you still want to go to the capital? I've seen people walk into danger, but I've never seen anyone drag their whole family along. What are you thinking?"
