In the midst of a dream, Nie Xi was jolted awake by a loud crash. Sitting up, he listened for a moment; the sound of something falling to the ground was particularly pronounced. He got out of bed and turned on the light. Despite Yun Zhi Yue's warning still echoing in his ears, Nie Xi felt no fear at all as he opened the door to his room.
Following the sound, it seemed to be coming from the first room on the floor. Just as he contemplated whether to go knock on the door, a tail suddenly smashed against it, shattering it into pieces. Nie Xi couldn't see the black ripple that had been knocked away, but he clearly saw a tail, thick as a human's and resembling that of a snake, retreating back into the room.
Nie Xi pondered; it couldn't be a snake since snakes didn't have legs. This thing had legs and was incredibly ugly.
“Shijiu, stop cursing!” came a voice from inside the room.
The door diagonally across opened, revealing Yue Shi with a stern expression. “Can you keep it down? I just fell asleep after finishing my research. What are you doing?”
“Damn it! Do I want to sleep? This piece of crap comes to assassinate me, and I’m supposed to just lie here and let it kill me? You’re the one who encountered it first!”
Yun Shijiu stepped out bare-chested and finally noticed Nie Xi watching them, his words caught in his throat.
After a moment of awkward silence, Yue Shi asked, “Why is he here on this floor?” Given his sister’s connections with this guy, he should have been arranged on the third floor for convenience.
Yue Shi remained aloof and silent, wearing an expression that said he had no idea what was going on.
Yun Shijiu felt anger bubbling up inside him and snapped, “Hey, sickly boy, what did you just see?”
Nie Xi replied honestly, “A giant, hideously ugly worm with legs.”
“Pfft! Hahaha!”
Even someone as composed as Yue Shi couldn’t help but break character at that moment. Dressed in tightly wrapped pajamas, he leaned against the doorframe laughing so hard that he bent over, his drowsiness dissipating—he could probably stay up all night researching now.
Yun Shijiu’s face darkened as he glared at Nie Xi. “What did you say? Are you blind?”
Nie Xi shook his head. “I’m just leukemia; my eyesight is still good. I saw it clearly—it was a long-legged worm with a mottled yellow-brown color. It was incredibly ugly!”
Yun Shijiu scoffed and revealed his vertical pupils to intimidate him. He couldn’t believe that a human would not be afraid of him.
Nie Xi stumbled back in fright, his face pale as he trembled and screamed, “Ghost! Sister, help me!” He then tore off his pajamas and ran upstairs in a panic.
Yun Shijiu remarked dryly, “Looks like he fell for it.”
Yue Shi stifled his laughter and called him an idiot before shutting the door behind him, leaving Yun Shijiu staring blankly at the broken door.
During the renovation of the third floor, the walls were knocked down, leaving only one door, which led to an exceptionally spacious interior.
This house was one that no one dared to approach, and Yun Zhi Yue had no habit of locking the door. With such a large space, how could she possibly not hear any commotion? Her younger brothers could handle things, and she was too lazy to get up.
However, when she heard Nie Xi's frantic screams approaching, she couldn't help but twitch her lips in amusement.
Within ten seconds, the front door was pushed open, and a fully naked man burst into the room as if his pajamas had been scared off him—underwear included.
"Sister, I'm so scared! Hug me!"
