When Nie Xi woke up, he found only Yun Zhi Yue dozing by the bedside, keeping watch over him. He stared blankly for a long moment before wanting to reach out and pull her onto the bed. He hadn’t lied to her; the hospital room now had a double bed.
Unfortunately, he had just come out of the Emergency Room and his body was too weak to lift her. Instead, he startled her awake.
For a brief moment, despair washed over him, engulfing his entire being.
Yun Zhi Yue, upon waking and realizing what Nie Xi intended, glanced at him and climbed onto the bed, burrowing under the covers. It was normal to feel weak after just regaining consciousness; there was no need to be upset about it.
Nie Xi held her close, playing with her waist, not feeling angry. “Even you have to say these insincere words to comfort me? I know I’m going to die; it’s not something I can’t face. I don’t want to hear that.”
Yun Zhi Yue hummed in response, wrapping her arms around Nie Xi's neck. “Then let’s talk about something else. Your dad confessed to me, and I’m considering it carefully.”
The Reincarnation Stone exclaimed in surprise; it was the first time such a situation had occurred. After all, it was the Soul Artifact of the King of Hell, connecting their souls. It didn’t care about this development.
Yun Zhi Yue’s expression changed slightly. Without the value, she couldn’t determine whether she could successfully pursue him. How was she supposed to navigate this dimension now? She just wanted to provoke him a little; how did it end up like this?
Her hands moved from his waist to his neck, tightening slightly.
Yun Zhi Yue met Nie Xi's cold gaze and felt uncertain. Did he really want to strangle her? Struggling to speak, she asked, “Are you angry? But why would you be? We’ve known each other for less than three days. Just because your dad likes me doesn’t mean you want to kill me?”
Nie Xi shook his head. “I’m not angry; I simply don’t want you getting involved with Nie Zhui. He is special to me and should only have eyes for me. No one else should touch him!”
Yun Zhi Yue widened her eyes in disbelief. What had she just heard? Was she hallucinating?
The Reincarnation Stone exploded with shock. “What on earth is happening? My lord, has our target gone mad?”
As if fearing Yun Zhi Yue wouldn’t understand, Nie Xi warned her again. “Stay away from him. If I find out you’ve crossed any boundaries with him, I will ruin you. He should remain clean and solitary, appearing to have everything while having nothing at all when he dies.”
He released his grip on her neck, and Yun Zhi Yue took a deep breath. She realized that these two were so antagonistic toward each other that they had reached a point of mutual curses in their memories.
Nie Zhui hoped to witness Nie Xi’s life extinguish before his eyes. He named him Nie Xi but remained indifferent for twenty years—an attitude that left an indelible shadow on a child suffering from a long-term illness.
Indeed, Nie Xi had twisted in an abnormal environment.
He did not hate Nie Zhui; he simply wished for Nie Zhui to live a solitary life and die without any ties. Their mutual disdain stemmed from the depths of their souls, unrelated to memories.
Yun Zhi Yue traced the contours of Nie Xi's brows and sighed inwardly. It turned out that it wasn't just her who felt disgust; he was also thoroughly annoyed by the entanglements between them. But what did it matter? Even if the target of his pursuit was truly the King of Hell, he could not kill the Heavenly Emperor.
It wasn't a matter of strength; both the Heavenly Emperor and the King of Hell were appointed by heaven and earth, making them untouchable. At most, it would result in an Endless Cycle like the one before him.
Sometimes, she found herself troubled by thoughts of when this relentless chase would finally grant her freedom.
