Bai Miao Miao lowered her head, standing silently to the side, her initial panic now replaced by calm.
"What are you doing?" A voice filled with anger and surprise broke the awkward silence.
The group turned to see other players had also found their way here, and the situation was looking grim. As they approached, they realized they were surrounded by a Mud Pit, where one player had fallen in and was now engulfed by Huang Eels.
The player attempted to scream for help, but multiple Huang Eels took the opportunity to slither into his mouth and nose. In the blink of an eye, he lost consciousness, consumed by the swarm.
The villagers watched the scene unfold with calmness; not a single one appeared flustered.
The new players, on the other hand, were on the brink of panic. One of them pointed at a woman in her thirties among the villagers. "It was her who pushed him! I saw it with my own eyes. Is this village trying to kill all of us travelers?"
The accused woman was stout, her face smeared with grime, her slanted eyes filled with disdain as she retorted without a hint of fear, "What does that have to do with me? He couldn't keep his balance and fell in. Are you trying to extort money from us?"
"This is murder! What money are you talking about?" The newcomer’s voice faltered as he realized they were not in the real world; they were merely ants trying to escape death. His anger dwindled into a weak murmur.
Not wanting to linger any longer in this place, Yun Zhi Yue spoke up, "Let's go."
Song Huai shifted his hold on the person he was carrying and moved away from the villagers, looking for another location. Just as they brushed past the woman who had pushed the traveler, she let out a mocking laugh and said, "I just heard a joke; let me share it with everyone."
"I don’t know which tour guide brought their group here, but at one attraction, only one traveler was left. Guess what happened? The traveler ended up rolling away with the guide! Can you believe it? This traveler is still lingering here instead of leaving after all this time. It’s my first time hearing such a thing."
"Is this a tour or a sale? Or are they just messing around with travelers? It’s downright hilarious! If you go too often, can you get pregnant?"
The villagers erupted in laughter and chatter while the subject of their mockery showed no sign of anger; instead, she wore a gentle smile.
As the four of them walked away, Bai Miao Miao turned to Yun Zhi Yue cautiously and asked, "Yun Zhi Yue, are you okay?"
Yun Zhi Yue felt her strength returning and stepped down from Song Huai's arms. With an expressionless face, she replied, "I'm fine. You all go ahead; I'm going back to sleep. Oh right, please let everyone know that I'll take them out for a stroll tonight. They should try to come back during the day for some rest."
With that, she walked away without any visible anger, leaving an inexplicable sense of impending storm behind her.
Bai Miao Miao felt nothing amiss but found it somewhat unsettling. "Why is there still gossip in this Eerie Game? Everyone's mouths are so loose; it's infuriating."
"You're just a weakling, what can you do?" Jiang Bai mocked without reservation.
Bai Miao Miao raised her small fist defiantly. "I will get stronger, and I won't rely on you. Don't underestimate me."
Jiang Bai replied with a knowing tone, "Naive. Do you really think that the Hell Level difficulty of the Eerie Game will give newcomers a chance to grow? The reason newcomers are assigned to all levels is that veteran players need them as stepping stones. Just watch the scenery; see if anyone forces you to your death."
Bai Miao Miao's face turned pale, but she refused to back down.
Song Huai had been in a bad mood since earlier and showed no interest in the two of them, walking straight ahead.
Upon returning to their residence, he found that there was no one on the suspended bed, which darkened his expression further.
The players who received Bai Miao Miao's message gradually returned as well, none of them doubting that a newcomer would dare to spread falsehoods while they were all eager to catch up on sleep.
As night fell, the door swung open, and Yun Zhi Yue entered, dragging a large pile of iron shovels behind her.
"Get up! Come and grab your tools. Each of you gets one. We're going to earn some Eerie Coins. If you don't want it, that's fine."
