Yun Zhi Yue slammed the table in frustration, "Are you done yet?"
Yun Xiaoxiao looked at her with a mix of indignation and concern, "Are you deliberately messing with me? What do you want?"
With a pitiful expression, she added, "I was just worried about how you got that injury."
Goodness, what a peculiar person! Even the great Meng Po couldn't hold her composure around her.
Yun Zhi Yue took a deep breath, forcing a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "It's nothing. I have a dog, and sometimes it gets a bit rabid. I got bitten, but it's no big deal."
What? When did you start keeping dogs? They say Huskies are not the brightest; have you had it vaccinated? Yun Xiaoxiao asked seriously, without a hint of doubt.
Ji Yan couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Not wanting to continue this topic, Yun Zhi Yue quickly changed the subject, saying she wanted to eat some cake to distract her quirky sister.
The cake wasn't even cut yet when Yun Xiaoxiao insisted that she had to sing a birthday song before she could eat it, claiming that she was a singer and sang beautifully.
In truth, Yun Zhi Yue didn’t care much for the cake at all. She was just afraid of being dragged into another conversation. After singing a song, she finally got to eat in peace.
As she enjoyed her meal, she planned to finish quickly and leave. Running into Jian Qin had really been a hassle!
Just when there was finally some quiet, someone else decided to stir things up again.
Jian Qin placed a piece of rib on her plate. "Eat this; pets love it."
Yun Zhi Yue paused with her chopsticks, realizing this was his way of holding her accountable for her earlier words.
She set down her chopsticks and faced Jian Shu directly. "I know what I said earlier offended you, but I was speaking the truth. I'm different from my sister; my mother died giving birth to me, and all I've ever received from my father is neglect."
"I understand very well how our gazes meet. When it's time to work, I make sure to stay out of your sight. I don't disrespect you; I respect myself."
Jian Qin nodded slightly, saying two words: "Not bad." It was unclear what he meant by that.
Yun Zhi Yue let out a sigh of relief, knowing she had passed that hurdle. Just as she was about to pick up her chopsticks again, Lu Chuan, who held the rank of Major General, spoke up once more.
"So this is how you respect yourself? What about Nie Yi?"
Yun Zhi Yue's eyes turned icy as she replied, "Jiang Lu, I'm genuinely curious. If you look down on Nie Yi so much, why do you bow down to the one who caused him such suffering? Who do you think you are?"
Lu Chuan's expression hardened as he glared at her. "Say that again!"
Yun Xiaoxiao gasped in fear as Yun Zhi Yue completely gave up on using her chopsticks. She stood up to get dressed, feeling the weight of the high status of the person present, and chose to speak only about herself.
"This meal is impossible to eat. Jiang Lu, do you also think that after all these years with Nie Yi, I’ve been trading my body for a path to stardom? Let me tell you, no matter how crazy Nie Yi has been over the years, he has never crossed the line with me. We are entangled, but not in the filthy way you might imagine!
Nie Yi is a madman; sometimes I wish he were dead for all the bad he’s done. But he wasn’t always like this. At least I’ve seen him break down like a normal person before.
As Yun Zhi Yue left the suite, she reflected on her experiences with Nie Yi, her eyes filled with complex emotions. Could it really be him? Why did every situation feel so tragically calculated?
He was the legitimate son of the president but was kidnapped along with his mother by political enemies who threatened the president to hand over classified information. In the conflict between country and family, he chose his country.
The abandoned mother and son became targets for venting frustrations; Nie Yi’s mother was brutally toyed with and killed before his eyes. Nie Yi himself was injected with an irreversible neurotoxin and sent back to the Presidential Office. But how could the president’s son be a blemish on his reputation? Thus, he was forced to change his surname and became the shameful Nie Yi.
