Yun Zhi Yue realized too late that she had been led around by the nose again. Her anger dulled the awkwardness, and she spent the entire journey bickering with Nan Jing.
The scene of their playful banter was not lost on the couple in another car. Sun Xiaoyue glanced at the man in the rearview mirror, a hint of infatuation flashing in her eyes. What if President Wang exposed her meddling? What would happen next?
Don't worry; dead men tell no tales. The casual mention of the deceased sent a chill down Sun Xiaoyue's spine. Yet, her burgeoning feelings overpowered her fear.
"A Tong," she called softly.
"What did you say?" came the cold, unyielding reply.
Sun Xiaoyue quickly corrected herself, "Yue Family Head, I'm sorry. I meant to ask what you intend to do."
After a long silence, he finally responded, "That’s none of your business. Just drive."
A sense of desolation washed over Sun Xiaoyue; she had chosen this path and could no longer turn back.
Yun Zhi Yue suddenly fell silent, peering out the window at something behind them.
"What are you looking at?" Nan Jing asked.
"Nothing," Yun Zhi Yue shook her head.
The familiar scent lingered in the air. This was Little World; it couldn’t withstand his presence. It was too coincidental—perhaps she was overthinking it.
Yun Zhi Yue pushed the thought aside and continued to engage in playful banter with Nan Jing. Perhaps realizing that she had been too hasty, Nan Jing’s teasing became more skillful in the days that followed, never making her feel uncomfortable. Their relationship had completely flipped.
She had assumed that with Nan Jing and Zhou Yu's connections and resources, investigating a woman who seemed to have vanished would be easy. However, the reality was quite the opposite. After President Wang had struck Sun Xiaoyue, she disappeared from the capital, supposedly off on a vacation to clear her mind.
President Wang had just left on a business trip, and Zhou Yu didn’t bother to inquire about a woman over the phone, making it seem as if he had taken an interest in her himself. He merely mentioned a project and arranged for President Wang to return for a face-to-face discussion, which was promptly agreed upon.
Little World had its own rules; even if she were Meng Po, she had to abide by them. With Nan Jing close by, there was no need for her to rush into anything.
It wasn’t until half a month later that Zhou Yu showed up at her door, his expression filled with confusion.
Nan Jing had been shamelessly staying with her lately; although they each had their own room and nothing crossed the line, it was still a declaration of possessiveness.
Zhou Yu had no expression on his face as he questioned Yun Zhi Yue about the past conflict with Sun Xiaoyue during high school, furrowing his brows in concern.
"What happened?"
Zhou Yu sighed, "I came to meet today, but guess what? President Wang was abroad and didn't get off the plane. Apparently, he was mistaken for someone else and was killed at the airport."
Yun Zhi Yue's eyes widened in shock. "Killed by mistake? Is that true?"
"It's true. It's already making headlines overseas, and news will come back soon. You mentioned that someone from high school ended up in the police station. What exactly happened? Everything seems coincidental, but as you said, it's just too coincidental."
Yun Zhi Yue frowned. "This doesn't seem like something Sun Xiaoyue would do. Does she have that much power?"
"Actually, it's not that complicated. Back in high school, we did have our issues. Sun Xiaoyue came from a difficult family but worked incredibly hard; she was always among the top three in our class. I found her impressive and kind, which is why we became friends. Later, my dad's friend's child, Yue Tong, came to stay at my house temporarily and ended up in the same class as me."
