My name is Lin Xin, and I have been an actress in the entertainment industry for three years.
I recently landed a role in a gender-swapped web drama, where I play a Domestic Violence Woman in a world dominated by feminism. My abuser is my ex-boyfriend, Gu Yanshen, who dumped me three years ago.
At this moment, I was bored and practicing slapping the air. The director walked over and earnestly told me, "When we start filming, remember to fake the slap. Don't actually hit Teacher Gu; he’s someone I hired at great expense."
I put on a pure and cute expression and smiled sweetly. "Don't worry, Gu Dao! You can rest assured; I will take good care of Teacher Gu."
...
The filming of the drama within the drama began.
In the scene, my on-screen mother was lounging on the sofa with her legs crossed, spitting sunflower seed shells onto the floor. Meanwhile, I was dressed in a suit, holding a briefcase and searching for my glasses.
"Honey, honey, where are my glasses?"
A man wearing an apron rushed out from the kitchen, and as he raised his hand, a greasy smell from cooking wafted through the air. I wrinkled my nose; that odor was quite unpleasant.
"Where are the glasses? You can't even keep track of anything; what good are you?"
The character played by Gu Yanshen lowered his head, searching for something in silence.
"Are you mute? You look like a resentful husband; it's really unlucky."
I kicked the shoes on the shoe rack in frustration and turned to slam the door as I left.
After I walked out, my on-screen mother began to mutter at Gu Yanshen's character, "All he does is eat a lot and do little, earning nothing. That thing is useless; it can't even lay an egg."
In response, Gu Yanshen, bent over and mopping the floor, remained silent and diligent.
The director called for a cut, and the scene went smoothly. They began setting up for the second domestic violence scene.
The director, probably worried that I couldn't handle it, specifically explained the scene to me: "Lin Xin, the anger in domestic violence escalates as emotions build up. It suddenly erupts after one can no longer shirk responsibility. Your performance in the previous audition was too restrained; you need to let it out."
I shrugged and replied, "Got it. I'll discuss with Teacher Gu how to hit him."
At that moment, Gu Yanshen was touching up his makeup. Hearing my words, he furrowed his brow and glanced at me. After finishing his makeup, he walked over.
Noticing there were few people around, I impulsively said, "Gu Yanshen, do you know what goes around comes around?"
Upon hearing this, Gu Yanshen suddenly leaned closer to me, quickly shortening the distance between us.
A certain sense of pressure enveloped the atmosphere.
“Lin Xin,” his deep and familiar voice echoed in my ear, “you want to take revenge on me? Fine, I’ll let you have your fun,” he said, squeezing my chin. “But don’t go too far.”
I looked up into his eyes, which resembled a bottomless pool of clear water, occasionally reflecting a hint of mockery on the surface.
I disdainfully shook off his hand, letting out a cold laugh before turning away.
When it was time to officially start filming,
I followed the script and kissed another male actor passionately in front of the bar. Later, at home, I had a heated argument with my “worthless husband,” screaming and cursing hysterically.
After smashing a few prop dishes,
I pushed Gu Yanshen into a chair, gripping his neck tightly as I shouted at him:
“I think you just need a good beating. If you keep arguing with me, I’ll make sure you behave.”
Then I began to slap Gu Yanshen’s face, one after another.
At first, I held back, controlling my strength while he tilted his head in response.
But soon I got into character, a fire igniting within me.
I truly lost control; Gu Yanshen started making muffled sounds. The more he reacted like that, the more excited I became.
I began to curse with lines not in the script:
“I say, this is all your retribution; this is what you deserve.”
I felt like I was starting to lose my mind. Using the resistance as an excuse, I dodged his slap, but suddenly his grip tightened, pulling me closer to him.
"Lin Xin, wake up! This is just acting."
Hearing my name snapped me back to reality. Of course, this was acting, but I had gotten too immersed in the role; I couldn't help it, and I couldn't blame myself.
I pushed him hard, knocking over both the chair and an unsteady Gu Yanshen to the ground.
I straddled him and began to hit him with all my strength, channeling my personal vendetta.
Die already, I silently thought. I hated you, despised you, and wished nothing more than to see you suffer.
In the scene, Gu Yanshen couldn't make any big movements; he could only shift on the ground to avoid me.
But I didn’t give him a chance. I kept hitting him relentlessly.
After a while, I grew tired and switched to pinching the flesh of his thigh with my other hand.
He let out a yelp, a genuine cry of pain escaping his lips.
