Ding Yan was utterly confused. It seemed that many people wanted to kill this journalist. Unable to contain her curiosity, she logged into the cloud storage provided by the journalist after returning to her residence, finally uncovering the truth behind the events.
This journalist had discovered crimes committed by a criminal organization in the United States. This group not only smuggled oil but also controlled an oil field in Africa, enslaving and slaughtering local residents. However, the journalist was aware of the consequences of exposing such information, which made him hesitate. Ultimately, driven by his journalistic integrity, he decided to reveal the truth. Unfortunately, before he could do so, someone found him and threatened him to hand over the evidence. With no choice but to protect his family, he compromised and surrendered the materials.
He thought this would be the end of it, but soon after, assassins came for him. Yet, he had left a backup plan; he copied all the data onto a cloud storage service and revealed its location to Ding Yan just before his death.
Thus, Ding Yan inadvertently waded into this murky water. She downloaded the files from the cloud and sent them to the media, only to discover that they were already colluding with this criminal organization. Consequently, she found herself in danger not only from this group but also from the Black Sky Organization, as assassins were forbidden from interfering in their employer's affairs. Ding Yan had clearly violated this rule.
For days, Ding Yan evaded capture and ultimately decided to return to Huaxia to avoid further trouble. Although she had no nationality, she still considered herself a Huaxia person at heart. Despite being of mixed heritage, her appearance leaned more towards that of Huaxia people.
What Ding Yan described was indeed thrilling, but for Jiang Chen, it was merely a trivial matter. However, Ding Yan was undoubtedly a person of potential; after all, she came from a background of assassination and had undergone years of training.
Jiang Chen had taken Lin Yin and Ye Ming as disciples, but their mentalities needed time to refine. In contrast, Ding Yan required no such training; at least when it came to killing, she would not hesitate or faint at the sight of blood.
After hearing her out without any visible reaction, Jiang Chen looked at Ding Yan with a hint of curiosity and asked, "Aren't you afraid? This matter is far from trivial."
"Compared to this shocking secret you mentioned, I'm actually more interested in you. Do you have a place to stay in Huaxia?" Jiang Chen inquired.
"Not at the moment," Ding Yan replied, increasingly perplexed by Jiang Chen's intentions.
"Since you have no place to land, why don't you follow me?" Jiang Chen stated directly.
Ding Yan was taken aback and looked at Jiang Chen in disbelief. "Are you sure? I'm like a raging fire right now; if you take me in, you'll definitely get burned. I don't want to drag you down with me."
"You probably won't be able to drag me down," Jiang Chen replied confidently. "If you agree to follow me, I can help you find your mother."
"Really?" Ding Yan's eyes lit up with joy but quickly dimmed again as she sighed. "In this vast sea of people, it's been over twenty years; how could it be so easy to find her?"
"I have my ways. Ding Yan, it's settled then—once we reach Shanghai, you'll come with me," Jiang Chen said firmly.
"I haven't agreed yet," Ding Yan exclaimed in surprise at Jiang Chen's assertiveness.
"You have no choice," Jiang Chen replied.
"But you just said you're not interested in women? How come you're acting like a wolf now? If you can help me find my mother, I might consider being your woman," Ding Yan said earnestly.
Jiang Chen broke into a slight sweat; it seemed that Ding Yan had misunderstood his intentions.
