Elder Brother stayed up all night and, upon seeing her return, asked, “Did you see A Wu this afternoon?”
Why did he ask that? Did Elder Brother know something? Luo Fini's mind was in a frenzy, like a herd of wild horses about to trample each other in chaos.
“We were supposed to take a fifteen-minute break before the meeting, but he didn’t show up, and I couldn’t reach him at all. Guai Guai Fu, did he really not come looking for you?”
He did come looking for her while she was in a daze, taking advantage of her vulnerability. Although Luo Fini thought this, she merely replied nonchalantly, “Nope.”
Elder Brother made another phone call and then fixed a suspicious gaze on the flustered Luo Fini, who was pacing nervously beside him. “The secretary just said that both you and he asked her for the key to the lounge this afternoon... You really didn’t see him? Guai Guai Fu, you wouldn’t be lying to your dear brother, would you? Hmm?” He stepped closer to her with each word, the final “Hmm” laden with pressure as if he could see right through her.
Under such intense scrutiny, Luo Fini had no choice but to admit that she had indeed seen Zhu Xue in the lounge. She briefly recounted what had happened there, of course omitting the overly intimate details.
Elder Brother pondered for a moment before asking, “You left first, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Did you close the door?”
“I think... I did.” What’s wrong? Luo Fini looked puzzled.
Without saying a word, Elder Brother walked outside. She hurried after him, anxiously asking, “What’s going on?”
He shoved Luo Fini into the car and only spoke after starting the engine and driving away. “The backup key is for the Technical Director; it’s a key that only lets you in but not out.” In other words, Zhu Xue was trapped in the lounge.
Luo Fini truly didn’t know whether to call her brother a pervert or just strange; her heart was filled with helplessness and surprise.
By the time they arrived at the company, it was already past nine o'clock, and the building was shrouded in darkness. Her brother instructed her to go up and unlock the door while he went to find someone to turn on the lights. Thus, each of them took a flashlight and moved cautiously.
When Luo Fini opened the door to the break room, she discovered that it wasn’t completely dark inside. The curtains were drawn wide open, and the light from outside seeped in, creating a hazy, mysterious atmosphere. Zhu Xue was sitting by the window under the dim light, hugging his knees, his body trembling slightly.
Luo Fini slowly approached Zhu Xue, but he immediately waved his hands in panic and trembled as he shouted, “Don’t come near me!”
This situation was reminiscent of what had happened in the elevator; he really did have a fear of enclosed spaces. Luo Fini’s heart softened at this realization. She quickly turned her flashlight to its brightest setting and gently placed it in his hands, speaking softly, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here with you.”
Zhu Xue’s hands were icy cold, and holding onto the flashlight felt like grasping a lifeline. Seeing him like this made Luo Fini’s nose tingle with emotion; her heart melted completely. Unable to help herself, she wrapped her arms around him and gently stroked his back before planting a kiss on his cheek.
She had no ulterior motives; she simply wanted to comfort him. To her surprise, once he calmed down, he began to respond to her affection, pulling her closer for a kiss.
In that moment, all rational thoughts fled as Luo Fini found herself lost in the kiss, nearly forgetting herself, her mind blank except for the instinctive urge to reciprocate.
“Guai Guai Fu, I’ve always liked you,” Zhu Xue said after pausing for breath, gazing intently at Luo Fini with eyes full of expectation as if waiting for her response.
Always? Did that mean he had been lying when he said it was amusing to see her suffer as a child? Realizing this made Luo Fini want to stomp her feet in excitement and perform a ballet right then and there.
Overwhelmed with joy, her confession came out stuttered: “I... also... do.”
Fortunately, he didn’t seem to mind; instead, he smiled triumphantly. “I knew you would fall for me.” After saying that, he lunged forward again, kissing Luo Fini until her mind went blank. Lost in this sweetness, she didn’t notice him secretly making a V sign towards the door.
The older brother, hiding outside the door and peeking in, was grinning from ear to ear. Heaven knows how much effort he had put into bringing these two together! He flashed a V sign and then tiptoed away.
Now that the plan was complete, it was time to leave. Otherwise, if Guai Guai Fu woke up and realized there were holes in what he had said, he would be in for some serious trouble! The whole story about needing a key to enter and exit the lounge was a complete lie. After all, didn’t she burst out of the lounge earlier without a key? He chuckled to himself.
