"Poisoned?" Li Ziyi's voice suddenly rose, incredulous as he asked, his eyes wide open. " Imperial Physician Hu, are you saying that Liu Yun is poisoned?"
He stepped forward, staring intently at Imperial Physician Hu, his face filled with shock and anxiety.
"Yes, Your Highness!" Imperial Physician Hu replied, panic etched on his face as he bowed deeply, nearly parallel to the ground. "The reason this young lady suddenly feels weak all over is because she inhaled the pollen of the White Azalea. Normally, while this flower is toxic, it shouldn't be this severe unless..." His voice trembled slightly, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
"Unless what? Just say it!" Li Ziyi looked at Liu Yun, who was lying on the bed, breathing rapidly and her body stiff. He felt an overwhelming sense of urgency.
"Unless someone sprinkled the pollen of the White Azalea on her pillow!"
Ren Siyang had been examining the room for a while and finally focused on the nearly invisible yellowish-white powder on Liu Yun's pillow. He crouched down to observe the powder closely, a serious expression crossing his face.
Upon hearing this, Imperial Physician Hu quickly leaned in to take a closer look. Dipping his finger into the powder and bringing it to his nose, he nodded gravely. "This young man indeed has a keen eye." He looked up at Ren Siyang with admiration in his eyes.
Li Ziyi couldn't afford to dwell on much else at that moment; he urgently asked, "Then tell me, how can we resolve this poison?" He turned to Imperial Physician Hu, his gaze filled with expectation.
"Well..." Imperial Physician Hu lowered his head as if hesitating. "To speak frankly, there is indeed a way to counteract this pollen's poison. However, such toxic plants are rarely encountered in the palace; I have only seen their remedies once in medical texts. To find a specific antidote, I would need to return and consult those texts. For now, I can only prescribe some detoxifying and life-sustaining medicine to temporarily suppress the toxicity..." His voice grew softer, sounding increasingly uncertain.
"What did you say?" Li Ziyi angrily lunged forward, grabbing Imperial Physician Hu by the collar. "Did you not see her just now? She was vomiting bile! She is my personal shadow guard; how can she be lying here so weak? You hold the esteemed position of Chief Physician in the palace, and if even you say there’s no hope, then Liu Yun is surely doomed!" His voice grew hoarse with anger.
"Your Highness, please calm down!" Imperial Physician Hu was terrified; his face turned pale as he quickly knelt and bowed his head to the ground with a heavy thud.
"Your Highness!" Liu Yun's breath was unsteady, and after her earlier bout of vomiting, her voice was faint, almost like a whisper. "Please don't make things difficult for Imperial Physician Li. It's my own carelessness..." She weakly reached out her hand, trying to grasp Li Ziyi's.
Li Ziyi shot her a fierce glare. "What are you saying at a time like this!"
He released Imperial Physician Hu and moved to the bedside, looking at Liu Yun with eyes full of concern.
"Rest assured, Your Highness. No matter what happens, I will hold on. I promised you that I would help rescue lady Yuan's father! As long as we can find that woman on our wedding day, with your and master Ren's intelligence, we will surely uncover the truth and save lady Yuan's father quickly. By then, it won't matter if I die..."
"You..." Li Ziyi was so furious that his tongue stumbled over his words. "Shut up! I'm telling you, you need to lie down and focus on getting better. If you dare to die before the wedding, I will have someone dig up your family's ancestral grave..."
Though Li Ziyi's tone was harsh, it couldn't hide the worry in his heart.
"Your Highness!"
Liu Yun's voice trembled slightly, and her face flushed a faint red, whether from sadness or shyness she couldn't tell. After glancing at Ren Siyang beside her, she couldn't help but whisper, "Since I became aware of things, I've lived for Your Highness. Although I understand your noble status, just the thought of marrying you secretly brings me joy for quite some time. But it seems heaven is fair; in the end, I am still unworthy of you.
Perhaps it's better this way. If lady Yuan can marry you in my place, you would surely be happier!"
As she spoke, her clear eyes fixed on Li Ziyi. If there was even a hint of expectation or desire in his gaze, she could truly let go of her affection and admiration.
For her, her feelings for Li Ziyi were not what mattered most; what mattered was that she hoped he could live happily and freely.
Upon hearing her words, Li Ziyi paused for a moment, seemingly taken aback, as a fleeting look of distraction crossed his brow.
He looked at Liu Yun, a complex wave of emotions surging within him—there was gratitude, guilt, and a hint of indescribable reluctance. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but he didn't know where to begin.
