The wait felt interminable. Frode gestured to Lilian, then slipped away while she remained behind, waiting for him. 0

Lilian understood his signal and nodded in response. 0

Once Frode left, he was quickly spotted by Mark and his group. Not far behind him was the place where Lilian was hiding. 0

Realizing it was no longer safe, Lilian panicked and noticed a large boulder nearby. She hurriedly ducked behind it, her heart racing as she pressed her hands tightly over her mouth, terrified of making even the slightest sound. 0

Mark and his men closed in on Frode. Mark, tall and imposing, bore a vicious scar that stretched from the corner of his eye to the corner of his mouth, making him appear even more menacing. He sneered, “Frode, today is your day to die! Did you really think you could escape?” 0

Frode’s gaze was unwavering as he met Mark’s challenge. Flames ignited in his hands, and a bolt of lightning flickered in his palm. “If you want my life, then come and try!” 0

The battle erupted fiercely. Although Frode possessed formidable abilities, he was outnumbered and gradually found himself in dire straits. 0

Mark's followers were all ability users; the Earth Elemental User hurled stones from the ground at Frode, while the Wind Elemental User generated powerful gusts to disrupt Frode’s movements. 0

Lilian crouched behind the boulder, watching Frode fall into danger, her anxiety mounting. She knew she had no abilities and felt like a weakling in this world, but she couldn’t just stand by and watch Frode get killed by these men. 0

In a moment of panic, she picked up a metal rod from the ground, took a deep breath to steady herself, and summoned her courage. Seizing the opportunity when the enemy was distracted, she launched a surprise attack on the Wind Elemental User from behind. 0

With a loud thud, the rod struck the Wind Elemental User squarely in the back. He let out a pained scream and stumbled forward, causing the wind to dissipate instantly. 0

Mark and his men were taken aback by this sudden turn of events and turned their heads toward Lilian in shock. 0

Frode seized the opportunity to unleash his powerful Thunderfire Ability, flames and lightning intertwining as they surged toward the enemy. 0

Mark and his companions quickly braced themselves, but they were still pushed back several steps by the overwhelming force. 0

"Hmph, consider yourself lucky today!" 0

Seeing the situation turn against him, Mark reluctantly spat out a harsh remark before hastily retreating with his subordinates. 0

After the battle, Frode turned to Lilian, his eyes filled with gratitude and curiosity. "Who are you? Why are you here?" 0

Lilian was taken aback, her mind racing as she fabricated a response. "I've been hiding in an underground safe house and just came out today, only to run into you all." 0

Though Frode was puzzled, he didn't press further and decided to take her to Dawn Base. 0

As they navigated through the ruins, surrounded by desolate streets and crumbling buildings, the occasional low growl of zombies sent chills down their spines. After a moment of hesitation, Lilian mustered her courage to break the silence. "Frode, what exactly is going on with Ability users in this apocalypse? I've been hiding underground and know very little about it." 0

Frode glanced at her, slowing his pace as he patiently explained. "In this apocalypse, Ability users are incredibly important. Humanity has established survival bases of varying sizes. Bases with fewer than one hundred people are small; those with one hundred to one thousand are medium-small; one thousand to ten thousand are medium; ten thousand to one hundred thousand are large; and bases with over one hundred thousand people are Special Bases controlled by the government, holding most of the resources in this world." 0

He paused for a moment before continuing, "These bases are managed by Ability users of different levels. Medium-small bases require Ability users of at least level three or four to maintain order; medium bases need level five; large bases require level six or seven Ability users; and Special Bases need dozens of high-level seven Ability users. However, these figures are just preliminary estimates—high-level Ability users are often only heard of but rarely seen in person." 0

Lilian listened intently, her eyes wide with curiosity and surprise. She quickly followed up with another question. "What about the distribution of Ability users? Are all types of Abilities similar?" 0

Frode shook his head, responding earnestly. "Not at all. The attributes of Ability users are crucial; single-attribute users level up faster and are more likely to become high-tier. A person can possess up to three Ability attributes, but that limits their progression and makes it difficult to reach higher tiers. The ten types of Ability attributes include Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Ice, Light, and Darkness. Among them, Light is the rarest—it can purify impurities within other Ability users' bodies and help them level up; Darkness is a spatial Ability that can be used for storage." 0

"How is the level of an Ability user assessed?" Lilian asked again. 0

"The current levels of Ability users were first published by the government, with a maximum of ten tiers. However, many high-level Ability users explode and die upon reaching the seventh tier. Even with the help of Light Attribute Ability users to cleanse impurities from their bodies, the mortality rate remains high. Therefore, many high-tier Ability users stop their training once they reach the seventh tier," Frode patiently explained. 0

Along the way, Frode also informed Lilian that Zombies are categorized into seven tiers and that there are ten different colored crystals. The crystals obtained from defeating Zombies can be used as currency and can also be absorbed by corresponding Ability users to enhance their abilities. 0

Lilian listened in shock, filled with fear and unease about this unfamiliar world. She secretly resolved to hide her identity as a traveler. 0

The setting sun cast its warm glow upon them, and their figures appeared somewhat solitary amidst the ruins. 0

As Lilian gazed at the desolate surroundings, her heart was filled with mixed emotions. She did not know what her future would hold, but she understood that from this moment on, her fate was irrevocably intertwined with this apocalyptic world. 0
