The cold gaze of Night Owl coiled around Chu Sheng like a venomous snake, sending a chill down his spine.
On the surface, Chu Sheng remained composed, but inside, a storm of emotions raged. He struggled to control his feelings, ensuring that not a single crack showed to his opponent.
"You’re quite impressive," Night Owl suddenly spoke, a hint of admiration in his tone. "Quick on your feet and sharp in your reactions; you’re a fine prospect."
Chu Sheng scoffed inwardly at the old fox. What trick is he playing? Yet he maintained a respectful demeanor, bowing his head slightly. "Thank you for your praise, Lord Night Owl." Meanwhile, his mind raced as he plotted an escape, even considering whether to strike first—after all, this old man didn’t seem like the benevolent type.
"I see great potential in your physique; you could be a martial arts prodigy," Night Owl said as he stepped closer to Chu Sheng, patting him on the shoulder with an air of temptation. "Are you interested in joining my ranks? I assure you, you will receive better treatment than you do now." A nauseating scent of heavy perfume wafted over with Night Owl's gesture, and Chu Sheng nearly retched. Better treatment? More like being used as cannon fodder!
A thought sparked in Chu Sheng’s mind; this could be an opportunity to learn more about Heishan sect's plans. He quickly donned a flattering expression. "Thank you for your kindness, my lord. I am willing to serve." Internally, he chuckled at the old fox; he would eventually outsmart him. For now, he would feign agreement and look for a chance to escape while possibly reaping some benefits.
Night Owl nodded in satisfaction, a glint of cunning flashing in his eyes. "Excellent. From today onward, you are my trusted confidant." He seemed to envision Chu Sheng dutifully serving him.
Just then, a piercing alarm suddenly blared, shattering the night's tranquility and disrupting the eerie harmony of the moment. The shrill sound echoed through the vast headquarters, causing unease to settle over everyone present.
"What’s happening?" Night Owl's expression shifted as he demanded an answer. The unexpected alarm filled him with an ominous premonition.
"Report, my lord! Someone has breached our headquarters!" A man in black rushed in, breathless and frantic. "The intruders are incredibly strong; our men can’t hold them back! Several brothers have already been taken down!" The man was drenched in sweat, clearly terrified.
A glint of cold light flickered in Night Owl's eyes as he snorted disdainfully. "It seems someone is looking for death." His anger boiled within him; how dare anyone invade Heishan sect ’s headquarters? They must be tired of living!
Chu Sheng felt a jolt of alarm. Could it be Lin Yue and the others? If so, this could spell trouble; he needed to find a way to warn them to retreat quickly.
"Let's go take a look." Night Owl waved his hand and led the group toward the scene of the incident. He was eager to find out who had the audacity to stir trouble on his turf.
Chu Sheng followed quietly behind, calculating how to extricate himself while remaining vigilant, ready to respond to any sudden developments.
The scene was chaotic. The air was thick with a strong blood stench that made one feel nauseous.
Several men in black lay on the ground, their fates unknown, blood staining the earth in a shocking display. A man dressed in a Black Combat Suit wielded a long knife, engaged in fierce combat with a group of black-clad assailants. The clash of blades and flashes of steel filled the air, exuding an icy aura.
"Impressive!" Chu Sheng thought to himself, astonished by the man's strength, which far exceeded any opponent he had encountered before. The man's fierce Swordsmanship and ruthless techniques clearly indicated that he was no ordinary fighter.
The man's Swordsmanship was lethal; every strike aimed for a fatal blow, and the black-clad attackers were no match for him, falling one after another beneath his blade. The sounds of their screams echoed like a hellish chorus.
"Stop!" Night Owl shouted sternly, his figure flashing as he appeared before the man, delivering a palm strike infused with a powerful gust of wind aimed at his chest.
Unfazed, the man raised his knife to block. With a resounding clang, their weapons collided, creating a deafening noise and sending sparks flying. A powerful shockwave radiated from their clash, causing nearby trees to tremble.
Night Owl staggered back a few steps, surprise flickering in his eyes. "What incredible strength!" He hadn't anticipated that this man in black could withstand his palm strike without losing ground.
The man let out a cold laugh and swung his knife again at Night Owl. The blade sliced through the air with a sharp whistle, targeting Night Owl's vital points.
Night Owl dared not be careless; he unleashed all his strength to engage in battle with the man. The two exchanged blows in a flurry of steel and shadows, neither able to gain the upper hand for the moment. The surrounding black-clad men scrambled to avoid being caught up in this fierce confrontation.
Seizing the opportunity, Chu Sheng quietly retreated to a corner, observing the unfolding battle from the shadows. He held his breath, fearful of being discovered.
He discovered that the strength of this mysterious man was even greater than that of Night Owl. Although Night Owl's attacks were fierce, they were all effortlessly neutralized by the man.
Gradually, Night Owl began to fall into a disadvantage, suffering multiple injuries. Blood flowed down his clothes, staining the ground red.
"Damn it!" Night Owl cursed under his breath, filled with resentment. He never expected to be defeated by a nameless pawn.
"Die!" the man shouted, swinging his blade towards Night Owl's head. The blade glimmered like lightning, slicing through the night sky with a sharp killing intent aimed directly at Night Owl's life.
Night Owl was unable to dodge in time, and he could see the blade coming down to split him in half. The shadow of death loomed over him, filling him with immense fear.
At that critical moment, a beam of golden light suddenly descended from the heavens, blocking the man's attack. With a resonant "clang," the golden light collided with the blade, producing a clear sound.
"Who is it?" The man's expression changed as he turned to look at the source of the golden light. Confusion filled his mind—who had intervened to save Night Owl?
A man dressed in white slowly descended from above, like an immortal being, landing gracefully before Night Owl. He radiated a faint golden light, resembling a deity.
"Who are you?" the man asked warily. He sensed the powerful aura emanating from the white-clad figure and couldn't help but feel a twinge of apprehension.
The white-clad man smiled slightly, his tone calm: "I am here to save him."
