Yao Guang did not return directly to her room; instead, she deliberately wandered around the estate.
When the maid had mentioned that this was not an ordinary city, she hadn’t paid much attention at the time. Now, reflecting on it, a chill ran down her spine.
Could an ordinary city have incidents where someone falls from the sky while walking down the street, crashing into the ground and yet miraculously bouncing back to life?
Could an ordinary city make one feel surrounded by a chaotic mix of energies, yet be unable to discern whether they belonged to humans, ghosts, or deities?
Just these two points alone were enough to scare anyone out of their wits. She probably had been too engrossed in her game at that moment to think anything through.
It wasn't until tonight, in Yan Fei's room, that she heard that strange sound.
Holding her breath, she perked up her ears and realized someone was following her outside.
That person had been trailing her for quite a while, their presence well concealed. Who could it be? And why were they following her?
This was precisely why she chose to wander in circles.
She cleverly led them into the woods behind Yan's mansion's courtyard.
Moonlight filtered through the dense foliage, casting dappled shadows on the ground.
She walked to the center of the woods, paused, and slowly turned around, calling out loudly, “Come out! You've been following me for so long.”
The surroundings remained eerily silent, as if time itself had come to a standstill.
Suddenly, a masked figure appeared out of nowhere before her, wielding a large knife that sliced through the air with a menacing whoosh, striking at her with ferocity.
Yao Guang nimbly dodged the attack, wanting to observe the masked person's moves before retaliating.
After exchanging blows for a while, the black-clad assailant's technique suddenly shifted. At first, she didn't pay much attention, but by the time she realized something was amiss, she found herself in grave danger.
The wind from the blade carried an unsettling aura, forcing her to retreat step by step.
In a moment of distraction, she fell into the trap; her arm was grazed, and blood instantly seeped out.
Just as the large knife was about to come crashing down again, a gleaming dagger shot in from the side like lightning. With a resounding "clang," it struck precisely against the blade.
It was unclear what rare material the dagger was made from, but it radiated cold light. The moment it hit the knife's edge, cracks appeared instantly, causing pieces to flake off. Then, a white shadow flashed by like a ghost, and the dagger was smoothly retracted.
Yao Guang focused her gaze and saw Yan Fei gently wiping the dagger with her sleeve while casting a sidelong glance at the masked figure. With a cold tone, she uttered one word: "Get lost!"
The masked person was so frightened that they stumbled back several steps, as if they had seen a ghost, and fled into the darkness in an instant.
Yao Guang did not pursue; instead, she fixed her eyes on Yan Fei, completely forgetting about the pain in her arm.
At that moment, Yan Fei was impeccably dressed, her eyes sparkling like brilliant stars—there was not a trace of intoxication left in her demeanor.
He was pretending to be drunk! Oh my God! Did that mean what he had just done to her was...
Yao Guang's lips twitched uncontrollably, her face alternating between shades of blue and red, feeling so embarrassed that she wished she could just disappear into a crack in the ground.
Yan Fei, noticing her awkwardness, raised an eyebrow and slowly approached her. "Did it hurt?" he asked, lifting her sleeve to examine the wound closely.
After a moment of inspection, he suddenly leaned down and licked the wound with his tongue.
"Hey! Hey! What are you doing?" Yao Guang finally snapped back to reality, pulling her arm away in panic and instinctively throwing a punch.
He calmly opened his hand and effortlessly caught her fist, gently asking, "Does it hurt anymore?"
Huh? It really didn't hurt anymore. She looked at her arm in disbelief and found that the wound had mysteriously vanished!
With a face full of astonishment, she stared at him and happened to catch a fleeting glimmer of red light in his eyes, which he couldn't hide in time. Terrified, she exclaimed, "You! You're not human!"
"That's right, I'm not human!"
He released her hand, a slight smile playing on his lips as he said with a smirk, "There isn't a single human in this city, including you— matchmaker's maid!"
What was going on? The game had barely begun, and her identity was completely exposed. Did he even know the purpose of her visit?
