My goal was to destroy the core of the formation.
Taking advantage of the vines not yet surging in, I dashed into the room and shut the door behind me. With the vines unable to enter, I was temporarily safe. I opened the gourd and poured all the water at the roots of the tree. Instantly, the tree withered, and I collapsed to the ground in exhaustion.
The door was pushed open by my father, who did not seem angry at all; instead, he clapped his hands in approval. "Good, very good."
"You think this is the core of the formation?"
My father shook a bell, and the tree sprang back to life. "I knew you would try to destroy the core long before this."
"So this was a fake."
The leader of the valley was thrown out from the shadows by my father, and I quickly caught her. She spat out blood, clearly injured by my father. "You dare to deceive me."
"What do I have to be afraid of?"
My father laughed. "Do you really think we could obtain the seeds without a reason?"
Seeds?
A shiver ran through me. My father was referring to the seeds inside the gourd. Hadn't the leader said she put them there?
"I found those seeds in your room."
My father looked at me with a smug smile. "It was you who helped me kill your mother and Sister."
The seeds used by Father to prolong his life were stolen from the leader's room and given to Mother. After Sister's death, Mother went mad.
The room described by the Master of the Valley held the key clue regarding the tree species.
"Mother, why do I have to help you find the tree species?"
My mother hugged me tightly. "Zhou Ming, your sister is gone. I can only rely on you now."
"Mother, what if the Master of the Valley finds out?"
I was filled with fear.
"Zhou Ming, don't be afraid. I will protect you."
She kissed me on the cheek. "Rest assured, even if we are discovered, I will say it was my doing."
I looked at the Master of the Valley with fear in my eyes, but he did not blame me. Instead, he wore a joyful expression. "Zhou Ming, give me the gourd seeds."
"I'm sorry, Master."
Guilt washed over me. "My mother and sister's deaths are my fault."
"It is not your fault."
The Master leaned closer and whispered a few words in my ear, and suddenly everything became clear.
I took the Spirit Talisman and rushed toward my father.
I pressed the Spirit Talisman against myself and charged at the trees, shattering them.
The trees withered, and the flowers drooped.
My father screamed in anger, "Impossible! How could this happen?"
Furiously shaking a bell, he summoned the flowers on the ground to crawl toward me again.
The Spirit Talisman in my hand was nearly depleted, and the thorns on the vines put me in danger.
I threw the Spirit Talisman at my father.
He clumsily dodged but still got hit.
His black skin was exposed, oozing dark blood.
My father's body quickly turned black, resembling charcoal.
He collapsed to the ground, unable to ring the bell any longer.
"Why?"
"Why didn't the Tree Spirit save me, but instead let me become like this?"
Taking advantage of my father's moment of weakness, I snatched the bell from his hand and turned to control the flowers to attack him.
The Valley Master stepped out from the side. "Zhou Ming, help me over there."
I assisted the Valley Master as we walked forward.
My father, filled with rage, exclaimed, "You've always been so malicious; you deserve a short life."
The Valley Master let out a cold laugh. "Hmph, too late!"
"Give me the bell."
The Valley Master looked at me.
I hesitated for a moment but ultimately handed the bell over to her.
As soon as she received it, the Valley Master immediately controlled the flowers to attack my father.
He was engulfed by the vines, blood spilling everywhere.
The ruthless expression on the Valley Master's face left me in shock.
It was only now that I understood there was a deeper meaning behind everything the Valley Master had done.
"Zhou Ming, do you know why I deliberately told you about those tree species?"
