The sunset painted the sky red, and beneath the trees in the cornfield, Wang Lijuan's soft voice could be heard: "I've been patient for so long!" 0

Then came Wen Sheng's voice: "You can't do this! You can't play with people like that! Aren't you supposed to be like the ones in the books?" 0

"Yes! The books say that's how you hit someone! Who knows what kind of books you read!" Wang Lijuan laughed as she playfully hit Wen Sheng. 0

Wen Sheng pretended to struggle, allowing Wang Lijuan to joyfully strike him. 0

"You really have no shame! Where do you think you're going with this? What kind of ridiculous books do boys read?" Wang Lijuan continued to tease him while hitting. 0

Eventually, Wang Lijuan grew tired and leaned against the tree, catching her breath. "Finally, I got that off my chest!" 0

"You have something on your mind? Why is that?" Wen Sheng asked, puzzled. 0

"Guess for yourself! What did you do?" Wang Lijuan replied with a smile. 0

"I didn't do anything!" Wen Sheng said, confused. 0

"Think carefully about what you did that made me uncomfortable!" Wang Lijuan laughed. 0

"Is it because I asked Qian out? Are you jealous?" Wen Sheng said with a grin. 0

"Stop being so full of yourself! Me, jealous? Hmph!" Wang Lijuan tossed her hair and turned her face away from Wen Sheng. 0

"Then why?" Wen Sheng feigned urgency in his tone. 0

"You silly boy!" Wang Lijuan couldn't help but chuckle. "It's because of you! You go asking someone else out but not me! If you don't like me, why spend so much money on gifts for me?" 0

"Now that you've said it! I admit I really like you!" Wen Sheng finally confessed, sounding completely natural. 0

“Just how much do you like me?” Wang Lijuan tilted her head and asked. 0

“Very much, and especially so,” Wen Sheng replied with a sigh. 0

“Is it love?” Wang Lijuan inquired. 0

“Of course! In ancient times, there was no such thing as love; liking someone was the same as loving them!” Wen Sheng laughed. 0

“You're not an ancient person! Why do I have to ask you for you to say it? Why can't you be a bit more proactive?” Wang Lijuan complained. 0

“I’m just afraid you might dislike my family's poverty. As long as the person is good, that’s what matters! Everyone likes good people!” Wang Lijuan said cheerfully. 0

“Am I a good person?” Wen Sheng countered. 0

“Do you think you are?” Wang Lijuan looked at him. 0

“I think I am definitely good; I'm the best person there is!” Wen Sheng smiled slightly. 0

“Nonsense! Just now, you weren’t being honest! You were touching me without permission; don’t think I didn’t notice!” Wang Lijuan pouted and smiled, “What do you want? What kind of books are you reading? Do you think I'm that easy?” 0

“Haha! Everyone has read those kinds of books; I really thought...” Wen Sheng trailed off. 0

“Cut it out! I’ve read those kinds of books too, I admit, but I won’t do that with you now!” Wang Lijuan said seriously. “A girl’s first time is very important.” 0

“The first time eating until full, the first time getting hit and crying, the first time farting and it stinking—those are all important!” Wen Sheng chuckled. 0

“Go to hell! You never speak seriously. Now that no one is around, what do you want? Just tell me! I’ll try my best to satisfy you,” Wang Lijuan said. 0

“Really, you’re not just messing with me again, are you?” Wen Sheng asked cautiously. 0

“Not at all! I was just joking before, but now I’m serious,” Wang Lijuan replied shyly. 0

“I want to kiss you!” Wen Sheng said, a bit excited. 0

“Sure!” Wang Lijuan responded readily. “What else?” 0

“I also want to touch your... um, you know,” Wen Sheng continued. 0

“Alright!” Wang Lijuan thought for a moment. “What else?” 0

“I’m talking about that place!” Wen Sheng said, feeling a bit embarrassed. 0

“Okay!” Wang Lijuan bit her lip. 0

“Well then, I hope you don’t mind!” Wen Sheng said as he reached out his hand. 0

“Wait!” Wang Lijuan suddenly exclaimed. “What I promised you is for ten years from now; it’s not possible right now!” 0

“Am I being messed with again?” Wen Sheng pretended to be very frustrated. 0

“It’s just that your request is a bit excessive; it’s all off-limits. Don’t you know that?” Wang Lijuan laughed. “If you just hold my hand, I’ll definitely be able to satisfy you right away!” 0

“Alright! Let’s just hold hands for now!” Wen Sheng smiled. 0

“Is this how it’s supposed to be?” Wang Lijuan said as she reached out to take Wen Sheng’s hand. “How does it feel now?” 0

“Wonderful! Just like pulling with one hand to the other! Hehe!” Wen Sheng laughed. 0

“Such a joker!” Wang Lijuan pulled her hand away from Wen Sheng and turned around with a smile. 0

“Give me another hug!” Wen Sheng pleaded, looking pitiful. 0

Wang Lijuan jumped over and gave him a hug. This time it was a solid embrace, and Wen Sheng held on for a long time, reluctant to let go. After a while, Wang Lijuan said, “Alright! If you keep hugging, I’m going to start sweating!” 0

“I can feel it now!” Wen Sheng leaned in and kissed her cheek. 0

“You’re taking advantage of me again!” Wang Lijuan blushed slightly. “Okay, I should head back now. I sneaked out, and it’s getting late.” 0

“Alright! Just let me hold your hand for a bit longer!” Wen Sheng begged. 0

“Why not just hold your own hand?” Wang Lijuan smirked. 0

“I was wrong!” Wen Sheng admitted as he reached for Wang Lijuan’s hand. She smiled shyly in response! 0

“I’m heading back! I’ll miss you!” Wen Sheng said as he got onto his bike and turned back to look at Wang Lijuan. 0

“Me too! Be careful on the way back!” Wang Lijuan advised. 0

The sky was filled with colorful clouds as Wen Sheng hummed a tune all the way home. The road felt smooth today, and the breeze was quite pleasant. Even the birds chirping sounded melodious, while vibrant advertisements hung from the shops lining both sides of the street. 0

“Where have you been? Took your time getting back?” came a sweet voice from a girl. 0

“Oh, it’s you, Qin Mei Mei! I was playing ball with Gao Ming! It was great; I completely crushed him! Haha!” Wen Sheng boasted with exaggerated confidence. 0

“I don’t believe it! Every time you lose badly to Gao Ming, and today you seem so happy. What good news do you have?” Qin asked with a smile as she stood by the roadside. 0

“I’m just having good luck today!” Wen Sheng replied with a hint of excitement. “Is there still time? Let’s chat for a bit!” He added with a mischievous grin. 0

“I have guests at home; my dad asked me to buy some snacks and drinks!” Otherwise, I would still be at home. 0

“Did your relatives come over?” Wen Sheng asked with a smile. 0

“Yes, my uncle is visiting us!” Qin replied cheerfully. 0

“Oh! Is that so? With all those delicious treats you’re carrying, I thought you bought them for me!” Wen Sheng joked. 0

“Dream on! I’m heading back now!” As she watched Wen Sheng ride away without holding onto the handlebars, she called out, “Don’t ride like that all the time; you might fall!” 0

Wen Sheng vanished like a wisp of smoke! 0

When he reached the village entrance, he noticed that Wen Xin wasn’t there to pick him up, which struck him as odd since she usually came to greet him. By the time he arrived at his doorstep, he saw Wen Xin sitting on a stone outside, her hands covering her face as she wept quietly. 0
