Speaking of Tang Che, I have actually met him before.
At that time, I was receiving treatment at Fengcheng Hospital. Every day, I would see a person standing at the door of my ward. He would come to see me daily, but each time he only peeked in before leaving.
I mentioned to Wang Ting that the person seemed a bit strange, and she told me, "He comes every day but doesn’t dare to come in; maybe he’s just bored."
I couldn’t help but laugh. "Is that so?"
Wang Ting looked at me and blinked. "Do you want to meet him?"
I shook my head. "Forget it."
I didn’t think much of it at the time.
Then one day, Wang Ting told me that her good friend Tang Che wanted to meet me.
I raised an eyebrow. "Tang Che?"
"The one I mentioned before, who stands outside the hospital every day but doesn’t dare to come in."
A few minutes later, Tang Che walked in.
Wang Ting quickly introduced us. "Xiao Mei, this is Tang Che."
Then she turned to Tang Che and said, "This is Su Mei. You’ve been watching her every day at the hospital; today you have a chance to introduce yourself properly!"
Tang Che slightly pursed his lips and looked at me with a gentle smile. "Hello."
I looked back at him and nodded slightly. "Hello."
To be honest, I felt a bit nervous. After all, I knew that Tang Che cared about me. Moreover, this wasn’t the first time I had seen him.
I had encountered Tang Che before. One day, while riding my bike home from school, the chain fell off midway. I squatted by the roadside trying to fix it. After a long time without success, just as I was about to give up, a pair of hands suddenly reached out in front of me—he helped me fix the chain.
I looked up and saw Tang Che.
He smiled and said, "I've fixed your chain. How are you going to thank me?"
I was taken aback for a moment, then laughed, "Thank you."
He replied, "It's too late. It's not safe to go home alone. Let me walk you back."
So he accompanied me home.
From that day on, Tang Che would occasionally appear before me.
I didn't pay much attention to it, thinking it was just a coincidence.
But looking back now... it seems it wasn't a coincidence at all.
In the years that followed, Tang Che came to keep me company almost every day.
Time passed slowly, and before I knew it, I had been in Fengcheng for several more years.
One day, we planned to go see the lanterns together.
I changed my clothes and waited for Tang Che and Wang Ting to grab the lanterns before we all headed out the door together.
The sky had completely darkened, and the lanterns glowed warmly against the night.
I hurried ahead with the lantern in my hand.
Tang Che asked me to slow down.
I laughed and replied, "Okay!"
As I turned around, I suddenly saw Jiang Yu standing not far away.
My steps faltered; I hadn't seen him since that wedding.
He looked so exhausted, with stubble on his face and bloodshot eyes.
I stared at him in a daze as he slowly walked toward me.
When he reached me, he looked up at me.
I stood awkwardly in front of him, unsure of what to say.
After a long pause, I finally whispered, "How have you been lately..."
Jiang Yu closed his eyes, tears streaming down his face.
"Su Mei, please come back, okay?"
I shook my head. "Jiang Yu, you should have your own life."
Jiang Yu grabbed my wrist tightly. "Su Mei, I'm sorry. I wasn't there when you needed me the most."
He looked at my arm, his eyes filled with unmasked guilt.
I smiled softly. "Jiang Yu, I don't need your apology anymore because it was my choice to leave your life."
"I hope you achieve great things and aren't stuck in one place."
Jiang Yu, I hope you can understand.
Don't dwell on the past anymore.
I want you to look forward and move ahead.
Don't look back.
